As I said earlier, the first time I noticed it, I WAS on pavement. Can't remember why I was in 4x, but I actually thought something had broke and the the wheel was going to fall off. When I took it out of 4x, there was no longer a problem as you say. I still don't understand exactly why you would get a wobble. The hub is secured to the spindle the same way whether your in 4x or not.

Earlier someone had mentioned something about the Dana 60 not having this problem. Is it unique to the D44?
