feedback from lowered truck guys
im just getting my truck on the road and ive got it lowered with 2" blocks in the back + jeep springs and c notch..the front has got just the coils cut..its low but not as low as id like or as low as some of the guys on here with similar setups..my concern is any lower in the back my pumpkin will hit my bed wood before anything else..i havent heard alot of people talk about that. second is my exhaust which i figured would happen eventually.. and lastly the pinion angle, do you guys with static drops shim out the rear end? im not too familiar with that stuff..ill throw some pics up too for ya guys

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
if your going any lower, my advise is to replace front with dropped spindles and drop coils, the rear I would bag, replace the panhard bar with an adjustable.
BTW, nice truck

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
i know the drop spindles is something i should of done when i redid the front end..if im careful i can get the ball joints out w/out ruining them though..and in the rear i used my old panhard bar and the old tie rod for an adjustable type trac bar that i mounted to the trailing arm..ill throw pics of that soon..i know nothing about bags, but would like to have them in the rear at least to be able to haul my bikes around. a rear bag setup shouldnt cost that much right? bags in place of coils?

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
Shouldnt mess the new joints up at all since they are new. hit the side of the spindle at the ball joint and should pop right out.

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
That is a great looking truck as is. But you could replace the coils with bags and get a little lower with a better ride. The rear is an issue and you can either raise the bed, do small relief with a cover, or just tunnel it between the tubs.
But getting low can get spendy quick. I like the stance you have and it's very similar to the ride height my '69 was on bags.

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
You may want to swap your cut front springs for drop springs. It will ride better.
Mine has about the same drop as yours and I didnt worry about the pinion angle. No issues that im aware of. I also agree with Jimmy with the bags up front too.

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
mine has about the same stance as yours. it looks good. i am in the process of adding disc brakes and i got the 2.5 in drop spindles. i cant wait to see what it looks like completed.
if you want to go lower there are many options. i would love to be able to afford bags and all the extra work that comes with it. |

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
I think the real difference is the suspension travel, if you go with drop spindle you retain the original amount of travel, then if you replace the coil spring with a air bag you can adjust it at will and still have a good ride and stable platform. When you are driving you can raise it to a reasonable height and not send sparks flying when you bottom out. When you park it you can drain the air out and it looks slammed. Best of both worlds. I saw a link to a company that has pretty reasonable prices on front and rear air bags and brackets, I am going to bag my truck, front and rear then add the fancy controls later when I can afford it. Right now I will just air it up to the right height and enjoy the ride, later I will add a compressor , valves etc. and be able to lower it or raise it at will. Kieth

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
Thanks to Jeff from Indiana, he hooked me up with Perry from PTS. He quoted me a bolt in front airbag system for the front of my 66 for 425 delivered to my door. Made by Ridetech and you can add all the fancy stuff (compressor and valves) later. Call Perry 1-855-353-7883 I am going to order soon. Wolfy

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
alright ive been thinking about goin a lil lower despite all the positive comments ive gotten about my stance as is...basically im thinkin of getting the drop spindle/coil for the front, and maybe cut a lil out of the rear..since i got the notch a small relief for the diff will be needed..BUT im stuck/confused about the headers which are too long. currently runnin hedman long tubes..pic 3 shows how low they are..might throw up a better one..
question..after searching drop headers/lowered headers, i dont know what to get. so if i could.....what are you guys runnin..350sbc heard alot of shorty hedman/hookers, but also alot of full length ones should work..so any feedback would be appreciated. |

Re: feedback from lowered truck guys
I'm using Patriot clipsters on my truck. It lays frame and we only had to modify the collector adapters slightly to get the exhast to tuck up between the frame rails. Plenty of clearance in the engine bay too.
For diff clearance I've seen a guy cut a small hole in the bed then he put a piece of rubber over the hole and bolted a metal strip around the whole to hold the rubber. Also, way2lo2 had a trap door in his that would let the diff come up. Both trucks were bagged but it would work on static drops too if the diff didn't protrude when sitting still.
