1966 shoulder strap cab holes
Hello , can anybody tell me when the started putting shoulder strap seatbelt mounts in the 1966 chevy trucks . I have seen the earliest april of 66. My dec of 65 truck does not have them . I have also seen some that have the caps and no screw/nut hole it was in a july 66 truck . I think they stopped putting they nut in but already had the holes in the interior sheet metal so they cap the hole . Others that i have seen use plugs in the nut holes . Thanks

Re: 1966 shoulder strap cab holes
I know my '69 had them, but I don't think they were available before 67. I think '66 was the first year seat belts were required.

Re: 1966 shoulder strap cab holes
i have a 66 cab that has the plastic plugs in it for the shoulder harness belts too,but i do not know what month it was built in.the truck was built in flint michigan.it is the only one i have owned that have these plugs in it.i have looked at many other 66's and have owned 3,but this is the only one i have ever seen in person that has them.i would say they are super rare.this cab that i have had the seat belts anchored to the floor like all of the other 66's(lap belts).BTW mine is a small rear window.

Re: 1966 shoulder strap cab holes
Not the first time this question has popped up - here's my guess at it. If it were an option and the holes were in all 66's - then all of us 66 owners would either have plugs (if we didn't have shoulder harness belts in our trucks) or we'd actually have the shoulder harness belts themselves. If it became mandatory mid-66 production year - then you'd either have the shoulder harness belts if you were a 66 late production year kinda guy or you wouldn't (and you'd have no holes with plugs either) if you were an early 66 production year kinda guy (i.e. NObody would have the plugged hole). Since all those possibilities have been seen - my theory is that it became an option mid-year. So, if you have an early 66 truck, you had nothing (like my 66 and Heartbeat 66's truck - has no holes at all) - or if yo have a late 66 truck, you had EITHER the hole with a plug OR the shoulder belts themselves. That's my theory and I'm stickin to it!

Re: 1966 shoulder strap cab holes
Has anybody seen or have the shoulder belts . Was gm worried about a federal policy on belts? In 1966 and was getting ready to install them . I know that gm made backup lights std in 66 . Where they use to be a option ?

Re: 1966 shoulder strap cab holes
My guess is it sounds like a Cali option. State level vs. fed maybe. I was going to run Cadillac CTS seats for the shoulder belt until I was told about it being tiedto the air bag.
