tie rod question
I was wondering about the tie rod end removal on a 1972 chevrolet 4x4. I have the ends busted loose but ran into a clearance issue with the leaf springs. The ends have the castle nuts on the bottom and I have seen some with the nut on the top. Which way is correct and how should i go about removing the tie rod with the leaf springs issue. My only thought is to raise one side of the body with another jack and hoping to get enough rise from the leafs to allow removal. Any information will help. I believe its a dana44 on the front.

Re: tie rod question
I just replaced them 2 weeks ago on my 72 4x4. Just loosen the nuts on the axle u bolts, jack the truck up by the spring, loosen the nuts on the tie rod ends, hit em with a BFH and they pop right out.
Install the nuts down - see pic. (sorry for the crappy quality - getting dark out) Last edited by gcsupraman; 04-26-2011 at 07:35 PM. |
