Wheel bearing seals

I can't beleive that there aren't wheel bearing seals available for my 61 3/4 ton. NAPA said they aren't available and I'm out of luck. Anyone know the correct part number? The seal that came out is a VICTOR 46322 and the NAPA book crosses it to a SK 20965. This seal is not the right one and they tried three other seals and they were all wrong.

Re: Wheel bearing seals

I crossed it with a Timkin number 8243. But when I ask for the seal it still comes back to the SKF number

Re: Wheel bearing seals

I show National 8243 as a cross to 46322 Victor, as well as it is listed in the book as fitting 3/4 ton front 60-62 gmc.

Unfortunately, they appear to be obsolete, but maybe it will help.

Re: Wheel bearing seals

NAPA and Carquest show the National seal cross that number to the seal that is wrong. They have some sort of error with this part number since every cross that they try comes up with the same seal, which won't work. I hope to get this worked out before this weekend so I can get the truck back on the road and start on the next problem.... getting rid of 25 year old gas that's in the tank and getting the truck tuned up

Re: Wheel bearing seals

The picture they show is the correct seal, but is not available. I found that seal in another store but it's also not available

Re: Wheel bearing seals

if you can get the specs of the original seal, it may take some book work but you can probably find a suitable replacement by using the dimensions and specs, or a real partsman. but a real partsman are getting harder to find these days in the cookie cutter autoparts stores that sell crap like candy bars, cokes and hotwheels, and the occasional correct part

Re: Wheel bearing seals

If you can't find one locally, you might have to purchase this one.

Re: Wheel bearing seals

Capt. Fab, that's the seal. I went back to Carquest and talked to a career parts guy and he found the seal. He looked under an diferent number and found it. True, real parts guys are getting harder to find. Most don't want to take any time to look things up or try and helpyou. Just sell you oil, filters and air fresheners. The two older type parts houses we have are NAPA (who do't have too may people that know what they are doing) and Carquest. Carquest only has 2 or 3 people working there and one is the store manager/ owner and he is the one who chased the part down for me.

Re: Wheel bearing seals

Could you post the part number and brand of seal so that when someone else is in need of one, this info will help them?

Re: Wheel bearing seals

The Box that came from Carquest has the number 8243 on it. I beleive that it's still the TIMKIN number and I don't know why they didn't look on the shelf before, but the software the parts houses use has some sort of error in it. He went to the shelf and it was there . I don't know what number he looked up on the computer. NAPA and Carquest have books to cross numbers but the guys seem to always go back to the computer. The seals are kind of pricey 20 bucks each. I asked for 2 more just so I can have some in stock, which they will have to order. We'll see if they will be the right ones.
