HELP! Need to build a new truck...
I'm sure a lot of you have been watching the saga of my horrible wreck in which I now have a totaled truck:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=366796 Ideally I'd love to get my hands on a '69-'70 truck that may be in fair-to-good shape that I can possibly drive home. As long as it has a running engine and somewhat decent transmission I can put up with it to get it back to me - worse case I can figure out a way to have it trailered. No engine or transmission would actually be fine - I can swap what I have now plus a 350 rebuild into the truck and be all set. At the very least I need a new frame and cab. The spare frame I have is for a '69 C20 4spd manual and it's been messed with a bit, so there will probably be lots of grinding and welding involved here. I'd rather have something clean if I can get it. Also the cab will have the wrong hump in the floor - plus it's pretty much rotted out in the floors and rockers anyway, so I'm really stuck without a matching cab. I would love an auto '69-70 cab at least. Any help would be much appreciated. Otherwise I'm going to continue to scan the for sale trucks, craigslist, and the local paper and truck trader (which by the way doesn't seem to show our trucks any more) to see what I can find.

Re: HELP! Need to build a new truck...
Wow, just read the other post and does that ever suck! Sorry to hear. Good luck finding the new project truck and all I can say is www.craigslist.com may be able to help find the new rig. Glad to know you're ok after all that's the most important part.

Re: HELP! Need to build a new truck...
try an ebay and craigslist search daily....seems there are a TON available in the Seattle area right now so not TOO far away (there was a recent thread about this)
Also try posting this in your regional forum if you haven't already...

If you haven't tried it, searchtempest is a craigslist search engine that seems to work pretty well. You can specify how far of a radius from your city and it will search for all of your titles within that area.

I've been marching down the list and calling people. Most I haven't gotten a call-back or email yet, and I can only see one truck a day right now, and a few of them are simply junk for too much money, or are GMC's that I put behind any chevys, or stepsides that I'm avoiding. I saw this '70 C20 in South Seattle yesterday that had a great AC/CST Cab with a straight hood, tailgate, bed sides and fenders, but the engine/transmission were all but junk. They wanted $2000 for it and wouldn't budge. I'd be willing to pay them maybe $1000 for it but nope, they think it's worth more than it actually is. Too bad - it has an original tach dash. A lot of the $200-$900 trucks have a lot of ROT in the cabs and bed. If it has a wood bed I'm looking for wheel tubs, bed sides and front that can be restored w/o too much patch panel work. The '70 yesterday was actually a good candidate. Aside from driving around this is actually fun. My goal is to find something around $1500 that can at least drive safely to my dad's shop where all of the fun will happen. I can trailer something, but I haven't found anything worth trailering that is worth the money yet.

Make sure to check out the central WA ads also. Found my 70 in Yakima for $1500.

Re: HELP! Need to build a new truck...
man, Around here you'd need to spend around 5-7k to find a running truck that's not rotted out. (although you will find deals for less from time to time but it's RARE- like once or twice a year...)
I've looked at several from 1000-2500 and none have been worth saving and most had motors that didn't run at all or needed a complete rebuild asap... I'd be borrowing a trailer for anything under 1000 and parting them out then selling the rest as scrap.... And a 200 truck would last less than 5 minutes around here. swap price from what I understand on a complete truck is around 325 in this area....and you could take off a couple hundred in parts off of it before scrapping easily even if it's a rust bucket.... ...so send some of those deals our way.... ...and I'm sure your neighbors to the north would like some as well

Re: HELP! Need to build a new truck...
SCORE! After looking at junk in various states of rot or project mayhem I found a 2nd owner '69 Custom C10 in good shape for $1800. It still has the original engine (have to verify) 4bolt main 350 with a TH400 3spd auto, coil sprung Dana axle, wood bed and a clean non-A/C cab. The paint job was botched and the wiring was messed with under the dash, but the dash is uncut and the original radio is still there.
The engine needs some TLC - rumored to be rebuilt 10k miles ago but it's not tuned right and has a quadrojet that needs to be rebuilt. It has a clean tailgate but the hood needs straightened at the nose. Rockers are on the way out but the rest of the floor looks good. Bed needs to be redone. Pics to follow. Huge find.
