Interior material question

I'm redoing some small parts of my interior, and thought about using some retro style glitter vinyl. I know its not for everyone, but it almost perfectly matches the Epco shift knob.
I'm looking to use it for a new shift boot (I'm building a long handle hotrod shifter from the B&M that came with my truck), the drivers sun visor...and possibly a couple other tiny areas. I've used tweed and the like in rods before, but what do yall think of this stuff?

Re: Interior material question

I've always thought that stuff is really cool in the right application, as long as you don't have to sit on it. It gets extremely hot in warm weather and will literally burn your behind. Besides it matches my gearshift knob as well!

Re: Interior material question

I dig it, but not everyone gets my interior, either.

Re: Interior material question

I think it would look great in small quantities in a black interior.

Re: Interior material question

might be eaiser to get a new shift knob... JUST kidding, it's a cool color and I like the Epco stuff also. But I agree with Max1775 - small quantities would probably be in order, too much of a good thing could look a blue paint balloon exploded.

Re: Interior material question

Now that I think about it - there are some really cool, yet subtle, possibilities here...
I think lining the little oblong indentation on the door panels with that stuff would look pretty darn nice (i.e. where the white strip is in this picture). Not sure how it could be made to look like a pro install because the onlyh think I could think of for how to stick it on would be globs of glue, and that could look crappy... But a posisbility.

Re: Interior material question

To much of a "lowrider" look for me.... now that would look sweet on a Dune Buggy though... Scooby Dooby Doo!

I'd take the shiny stuff over tweed though... tweed looks to much like burlap, reminds me of the interior fabrics Chrysler / Plymouth used in the 70's. Nasty itchy scratchy stuff.

3M Spray adhesive would work on most surfaces. Gorilla Snot would work too for some areas, but it has a bit to much thickness and might not dry level.

Re: Interior material question

make sure it fits the look of the rest of the truck. I wild interior needs a wild exterior. Also, sitting on that stuff for a long distance or daily will get annoying...

but I have always dug that stuff....

Re: Interior material question

It won't be on the seats. Only the shift boot and sun visor. I may also add it to the center console, but thats not done being built yet.

Outside of the truck is in progress, so it wouldn't match. Final plans will eventually include some ice-blue pearl flake on the roof/upper cab, so it should fit. The exterior isn't "wild", but not stock either. I think by biggest challenge will be not using "too much" and just keeping it for some flare, but without being gaudy.

Re: Interior material question

thanks 1bad!
It seems to be pretty good quality.
I got it from yourautotrim DOT com. They supplied me with all of my tweed and such on my other projects, as well as felt for card tables. I'm pretty happy with the quality; reasonably thick but still soft and pliable, and has a woven reinforced backing. I think it will work well for sewn pieces like the shift knob, and flatter peices like the sun visor. It may be tough to pull/stretch over tight corners, but it looks as though its pliable enough.

I might have to take u up on that offer 1bad62, we'll see what I can make it through this weekend.
