Bird pooped on my hood, clear coat is gone??
I came home today and decided to handwash and wax my '84 K10. I backed it out of the shop and noticed that a bird had got in there and pooped on my hood!! The poop couldnt have been on the hood more than 24hrs because I washed the truck at the carwash yesterday evening. Well, it's just bird poop, no big deal. I proceed to hand wash the truck. I chamois dry it off and notice that the clear coat is dulled where the poop was. Thought it was just residue because I dont scub the paint very hard. Well, it wouldn't come off!! So my first attempt was Meguire's Cleaner wax.....no good there. My next step up was Meguire's Ultimate Compound/Polish......that's didn't work either. Lastly I stepped up to a full polishing compound......that didn't remove it either. So, can anyone tell me how bird sh%#t ate thru my clear coat??? What the hell was this little avian bandit eating when he accosted my paint job that could have ate thru my clear? He was obviously a Ford lover!!!
Here is a pic of the hood.....see the dull spot. Posted via Mobile Device

WOW! That flocker was eating some toxic berries for sure. Looks like you might have to hit it with some 2000 grit and a buffer. Nice truck despite the poop carnage.

I had eggs do that to one of my pick ups. Fried right on the roof and straight through the clear. I don't know why.

Yeah I was afraid sandpaper was gonna be the next step.....geez I cringe at the thought of sanpaper on my hood. Oh well, if that's wat it takes. Would it be better to wet sand? Would a clay bar help at all before I try the sanding?

To answer your question, yes you will need to use 2k wet or dry and wet sand before buffing. If your not sure how to sand and buff, I do not recommend testing it on your hood. I suggest you get an experienced detail shop, or painter to offer some assistance.
