Hi guys, have a problem starting engine remotely. One problem is the neg battery ground cable is smoking. It is properly grounded to the frame. The engine is not grounded.

I think the ungrounded engine is your problem. The starter draws a lot of current and it gets it's ground by being bolted to the engine block. So you need the battery ground cable hooked to the engine block (not the frame) to make sure the starter has a good ground. The frame/body ground isn't really important in terms of starting/running the engine. The frame/body ground is only used by things like the lights, heater fan, radio, and such.
