I made a 50 mile round trip this last weekend to pick up a transmission down in Pearland. My truck was bobbing and bouncing a lot more than usual. There is an elevated stretch of I-45 through downtown that just about made me puke it was bouncing so bad.

Well I had a chance to look at it this afternoon, and I found the right front shock mount has come loose from the frame. The nut backed off the stud and now the hole is wallowed out. It must have been loose for a while and finally the nut just fell off. The driver's side has a patch welded to the frame to fix the same issue that happened before I got the truck.

Anyway, I was searching on the forum trying to find the bolt on shock mounting brackets that I have seen but no luck. Anybody know where I can get these?

I found some on the Ecklers site for the pre-'73 trucks. Will these work on ours?

When we go to Galvest that loop around town is like riding a roller coaster in our raised top conversion van. I feel your pain or sea sickness in this case.

on some of the old work trucks ive just had a washer welded on each side fo the frame and its worked

Yea I know this ain't the right way but I have seen it done and it works. That sucks though I bet that was one hell of a ride haha!

Not sure that this is available. Looked through LMC and a couple other places and cannot seem to find it. Might check with your local auto parts store.

the mounts come with most brand front shocks, dorman makes a mount somewhat like the stock ones

Well I found a similar looking picture as the Eckler on the CPP site, and they say it fits 60-87 trucks. They are also a bit cheaper.

But it seems like the place I saw these before made a frame stiffening kit for the power steering gearbox. I just haven't been able to find them.

I like the stock shock bracket for a 4X4 with dual shocks. The bracket for the second shock. Requires two 3/8 holes and no more wallowed frames. Ill post a pic when i get to real 'puter.

Only company I know of that sells the frame stiffner

I think I have a new pair of these brackets at home you can have if needed and I live in Houston on west side, however I dont think this is what your after.

This is a VERY common problem especially on the square bodies.

+1 on the common problem. I was lucky. Mine was loose but the frame was still ok. If I had driven it for any time I would be in your position. I stumbled on to it when I was trying to improve the steering behavior. There are probably a number of trucks that have loose shock mount bolts that could prevent damage with a few quick turns of a ratchet. Thanks for calling attention to it.

I will follow you thread to see how you resolve it.

Autofab also make a steering box gusset. And they have a model specifically for 2WD trucks.

I really appreciate the offer, but that is not the style of bracket I'm looking for. CPP makes a plate like that for a single shock.

I found yet another site that has what looks like the same bracket as Ecklers and CPP, and it has a picture showing the bracket mounted to top of the frame. This would raise the top eye of the shock by a few inches.
