I picked these up the other day the guy said that there rare I'm not sure of that I liked them over the longer streight ones. What did they come on.
Thanks |

Re: How rare are these mirror
They certainly appear to be rare, as I’ve never seen any like them. They may have been designed for a special application like a school bus or fire engine, but I’m finding no photos of any model with brackets formed in that shape. On a pickup truck cab they don’t appear to be too practical, it seems the mirror head would be close to colliding with the vent window on a 64-66 or would be viewed through the windshield on a 60-63. The earliest mounts I’ve seen for the 1960 models were cast in one piece rather than stamped with a tubing arm, so these appear to be of the later design. Interesting mystery, hopefully someone else actually knows where they originated.

Re: How rare are these mirror
i have seen the non-repro originals only a few times - here's a pic of one below. They are "curvier" than the repro mirror mounts. But yours appear to be shorter - I'm with Markeb01, I'd guess they are off some odd application. Maybe they were peep mirrors for semi trucks....
But, I actually like those mirrors a lot - I've always thought the stock and repros arms were just a little too long. I bought a pair of old ones at a swap meet and pla to shorten them someday (and I've seen a thread or two on here where a gent did a super job of shortening them). One caution, you'd want to of course check the placement - shorter stem may put your driving line of sight (to the passenger side mirror) right in line witht the vertical frame of the vent window, blocking the view. Looking cool is one thing, but gotta be able to see em too. If you are doing body work on the truck, then you would also have the option to work out a way to mount them a little further aft of the stock location so LOS is not blocked. But that's probably a lot of work for little reward. But I like em! EDIT: OOPs - sorry Markeb01, I see you already mentioned the vent window concern! My bad. |
