"to deluxe heater, or not to deluxe heater, that is the question"

im torn. im almost done with my motor swap, and i decided to mock up the deluxe heater. it sits rite in the way of my dipstick locations. i can still get out the dipsticks but i can imagine how it would be trying to fiddle with it back in while the motor is still hot.

this is where i need your opinion. i want to try the deluxe heater as a "poor man's air conditioning" during the summer. in theory, i could pull the heater core and loop the heater hoses together and use dry ice where the core would sit. I DONT KNOW IF IT WILL WORK. just a theory. what would YOU do? of course my truck has been down most of the warm days this summer so i havent been able to even atempt it.

i think you will get to much heated air from the engine buy one of those swamp coolers and run that and then run the standard heater and make room for your dipstick!!

I think you'd be much happier looking for an old vintage 60's-70's swamp cooler that sat on the floor. They worked similar to the tubes that hang on the window, but rested on the transmission tunnel. Filled with ice or water, they plugged into the cigarette lighter to provide fan power. Unless you live in a place like Arizona with no humidity, I never found any of the evaporative coolers to improve comfort very much.

yea, that would be nice, but i have a megashifter sitting rite on the trans tunnel. and a vintage air unit is way out of my budget. i guess i can just put the block off plates back up for now, and when rainy season comes, maybe ill hook the deluxe heater up again to see how the defrost works out.

I'm rolling in Az with no A/C unit everyday, it aint that bad. These trucks get pretty good airflow. I would just leave the heater core out and roll like it is.

as long as you do not hook the heater hoses up to the engine you should be cooler , the humidity in AZ is low-- so the water cooler effect should help......Kieth get a small 12 v pump to circulate the cooled water through the lines that flow inside the cab it should work.....not sure how long though....

Look for something like an old Cool Pack. I just saw one up here on CL. Made by Monarch. Compressor, hoses, evap, and condenser...150.00$

yeah better crack a window, dry ice is carbon dioxide and will kill you pretty quick in a confined space.

He was not going to eat it....just use it to cool off some water in the hoses.......a closed loop water cooler with dry ice.

yea, the dry ice wouldnt make fog unless you get it wet.

i thought about the co2 in the cab thing too, but all you have to do is open up the fresh air vents and it should be fine. we all breathe out co2 as it is.

and the hoses wouldnt even be involved if i do try the dry ice theory. ill let you guys know how it goes if i do it when i get the motor running. unless the co2 knocks my ass out. hahahhahahha
