Stepside guys: what size gap to leave between cab and box?

Since I'm throwing a 57 89" stepside box on my 66-ish truck, I'm not sure what this measurement should be. Looks like if I line up the mounts, I'll have about 3" - and that looks like a little too much. I can't get a good idea look at pictures - seems like I've seen anywhere from no gap to 3".

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Scot

I have the cab off right now, never actually measured that gap, but there isn't more than maybe 1/2" of fudge room there once you line up all the bolt holes, and 2-3" sounds right - bed rail mounts and cab mounts line up on the frame holes and don't move forward or back more than the size of the bolt holes will allow.

From the flat part on the back of the cab (not the indented area), the distance on mine is 1.5” to the forward end of the top curl:

On my '65 the space is about 1 inch but there is enough adjustment to make it like Markeb01's. I just wanted the gap to be as small as possible.

Happy Trails......
