Dropped dually tires?
Wondering what size dually tires I need to run with a 5/7 drop? I am running a stock 16" wheel. I was thinking a 225/60/16. I want the same size all the way around. If you have pics, that would be nice too.
Thanks Scotti for the drop parts!!!

Re: Dropped dually tires?
Im running 225 75 16 on mine. With a 225 60 you can probably keep your inner fenders. How did you get a 7" rear drop?

Re: Dropped dually tires?
Im just guesssing what the rear drop will be. Its a 3/4 ton I am converting to 1 ton DRW. I am going to use the 3/4 ton rear springs, but with some springs removed. I have a A.R.T 4K air over leaf setup for the rear.

Re: Dropped dually tires?
maybe things have changed but when i had my dually running on 225/60/16's they were CAR tires, the load ratings weren't optimal for a big heavy dually, but they looked killer.

Re: Dropped dually tires?
225-70 or 75 16's would get you in the ball park. I've never cared for the 225-60-16 on these 'larger' trucks..... it just doesn't look proportionally right to me. With a 5" drop, you'll want close to a 28" tall tire as possible to fill the wheel well w/o buzzing. For the rears, 235-75 or 85 16's.
I swapped some 235-70-16" LT's to the front of my dually. Although not 'load rated' like a HD truck tire, they'll hold the weight of the BBC up just fine & will not be an issue. That goes for the rears as well too & you'll have 4 tires back there vs. just 2. Also, the taller the sidewall, the greater the load capacity when it comes to LT or pass car tires (another reason I don't like 60 series 16" tires). That being said, once you remove the load rated tires, it's not capable of safely hauling the same capacity of cargo as with load rated tires. You can't haul any triple axle gooseneck trailers w/10K of weight. I like to think my dually w/now be a 3/4 ton w/dual wheels. It will haul my 18ft car trailer around w/o issue & is better suited for the task vs. my previous swb 1/2 ton.

Quote:
I do my searches using Tire Rack alot just by entering the size I would like to run. I then scour through the results for a brand & look to see if other sizes are available that also work (I've never had a vehicle that had the same size F/R & never rotated tires). If the reviews are good, pricing is within my budget, & I like the appearance of the tire, I'll consider them.
