We're farmers too, so know your mouse pain. We have packrats, too. I've have good results with putting the mouse/rat poison in packages in our cars/trucks/machinery. You don't need to open the packages, they'll eat a hole to get to the poison. (my wife told me that, didn't believe her 'til I tried it). Engine compartments, trunks, everywhere.
Some guys use Irish Spring soap bars, or moth balls.
I don't see why using jackstands for storage isn't a good idea, too.

I would not use poison. The mice may eat the poison then die some place in your truck. You will be smelling a dead mouse until you can find him. Use a mouse trap. Use peanut butter for bait. Then check the traps every day.
