Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

I know there are a couple of threads already on this, but they are hard to follow so I was hoping someone would chime in on this. I'm looking for long tube headers for '73-'87 trucks that don't hang below the frame and are decently long. Anyone have any that they recommend?

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

The ONLY bolt on set are brphotrod set. I am not sure about the hangin down part but they are for sure long. I have been looking for a set for about a year for a 4x4. Long tube f-dody headers may also work. I tryed them and they hit everything. My shakles, shifter linkage, trans tab, ect. But some have them on there 2wds and they say they work great.

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

I need to know this too....

Ive read that dkauffman05 ran a set of the $170 ebay 98-02 camaro stainless long tubes and they fit with minor grinding, and flamingbig10 ran hooker super comp #2289-1hkr, but they are pretty pricey. also heard that dynatech #115-90940030c might fit, also fairly pricey.

So far I have found nothing reasonably priced that will fit without mods.....

If you do let us know I want some asap

thanks

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

The f body will fit a 2wd better then a 4wd but i cant say if they are worth the money or not. I still do not understand why only one company has a set of headers out that WILL work. They even have them out for 88-98 trucks. You cant tell me there are more ls swaps in that year then in 73-87 year. Even 4wd s10 s have headers out for the swap. It makes me upset that it seems like nobody is trying to make a set. How long would it really take. A day or so. I wish i had the skills to make some i would be rich!

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

Im running f body headers and if you look at project bruser he has lots of pics of f body headers. they do hit every where you have to notch frame on both sides. if you have an 80 e you have to cut off the tranny tab. I scooted my engine back caus they hit my lower control arm but i used custom mounts to set my engine down for body drop. if you run normal swap mounts you should be right in the middle of the fram rails and have less grinding. the driver side kicks out though so you have to cut off some of the collector to get pipes to mate up with out hitting. the bruser thread has a great write up on this. it sure is better than 700$ wallet hit though, cooks makes em too high dollar

It does look like he has f-body headers but it is also the wrong body style. We all need 73-87 headers. Tons of places make them for 67-72 bodys. Thanks tho.

85burb, I know we were on the Doug Thorley post trying to find out when they were going to make some for our body style. Did you ever find out why exactly '67-'72 models wont fit our trucks. No one will answer me as to why they wouldn't work.

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

I bought a set of Schoenfeld LS swap headers for '88-98 trucks a couple months ago from Summit Racing. Haven't done a full mock up yet, but mine cleared the frame when I had the tranny supported by the stock crossmember (haven't set the angle yet, got an aftermarket one to use). I threw on the drivers side to check last night while I have my tranny out (so the engine is tilted far back) and I'm hitting the control arm bolt, so I'm confident they will clear the frame (just).

I had to remove my evaporator box to get the passenger side in. Don't have pics...my project is moving kinda slow, and I'm gonna wait to put the tranny back in to do a full fit (when I set the d/train angle)

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

I'm using Schoenfeld LS swap headers an they work. Passenger side frame may need to be grinded down 1/4" cuz its close. You may not have to with adjustable motors mounts

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

In the pics i cant see why it would not work with 4x4. If the headers exit at the trans there is no reason they would not fit. Do you have any pics under the truck where the collector is?

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

Well pulled the trigger and ordered a set of the $170 ebay 98-02 long tube stainless. When I get them I will take pics of how much cutting and bending needs to be done for them to fit. HOPEFULLY!!!!! lol

I have never heard of those before but they look like good quality for the price. I might have to order a pair. LS1 and LS2 headers are the same right?

Re: Long Tube Headers for '73-'87 LSX Swap

Just installed the '88-'98 Schoenfeld LS Swap headers on my '80 GMC. Fit with plenty of frame clearance. I had to remove the A/C evaporator box to get the passenger side in. And its a tight fit with the drivers side control arm, but it clears.
