Gas tank filler hose?

Swapped in an aftermarket '87 20-gal tank (with baffles) to replace my 20-gal carb'd tank and the old filler hose pipe is a smaller diameter than the inlet to the new tank. The hose pipe is prob. as old as the truck (1980) and is thus hard as a rock. Is that the reason why it doesn't fit, or did the '87 tanks come with a bigger inlet diameter, or is it because I'm running an aftermarket tank?

Need to know because I want to go ahead and order the part from LMC, but don't know if I should order for a 1980, 1987, or not at all?

Re: Gas tank filler hose?

Well the '87's were TBI, I imagine that has something to do with it. Totally different system.

The only differences are the tank baffles (to keep the fuel near the pickup), and the sender has an in-tank pump. I'm running a 5.3 in my truck

Re: Gas tank filler hose?

Just did a swap of an 84 tank into my 77. My 77 has a inlet hole of 1 and 1/4 inches and the 84 is 1 and 5/8. I believe 82 and up were 1 and 5/8. Check ebay for 87 gas tank and usually they say what size the inlet necks

Re: Gas tank filler hose?

Thanks for that...for some reason I didn't think to check the diameters of the different tanks (I still have my old tank kicking around) with my calipers
