Stepside caulk?

What is the caulk like stuff filling the seam where the step fits up to the bed? The paint has come off of mine and it looks like a white, putty or caulk like stuff.

Do they sell it at the auto parts store?

Re: Stepside caulk?

I'm assuming your talking about seam sealer. (haven't had a chance to pull fenders off of a stepside yet)
NAPA may have it, I haven't seen it in the "chain stores". I found a store locally that did sell it, but their niche was auto body. Call around, they may not have it on the shelf, but may be able to order it. (internet is another option)

I'd think, if it were easier to get, PO's wouldn't keep patching these old trucks with bathroom caulking.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: Stepside caulk?

Ask a body shop, you can get it on a roll (like scotch tejp) it has a protective plastic on one side and is about 1/2" wide, perfect for mounting the steps. Easy to apply and can be painted over but it will get hard and the paint will crack again after a feve years in the sun. Im thinking about using this instead. Rubber seal with a bulge, and it comes in diffrent colors.
The look might not be everyones cup of te, but I kind of like it.
