bed mount question?

Saw cheese's build about his singe cab dually he was building. That lead me to believe the cab and chassie bed mounts were different than a standard dually bed. I'm new to the fullsize chevy scene. Can someone steer me in the right direction. I have pending deal on a 85 chevy c30, 454, 4 speed for $800. It runs and drives but has a flat bed on it. I want to but a standard dually bed back on it.

Re: bed mount question?

From what Ive heard is that a cab and chassis has a 4in longer frame than a standard LWB. A standard bed doesnt need mounts it lays right on the frame but there "might" be a 4in larger gap between the bed and cab.

i had a 79 cab and chasis truck and it didn't have the holes in the frame to mount a pickup box.

ahh. So in theory I would have to move the holes in the frame and axle foward 4". Then cut off the end of the frame and relocate the rear bumper brackets. Sounds like a lot of work.

So how did the bed mount? Seems like the bed mounting would be easy to fix with some new holes. I'm more worried about the axle location compared to the wheel wells on the standard bed.

Re: bed mount question?

cab and chasis trucks didn't come with a pickup box, duallies did. Cab and chasis trucks had a narrow 14 bolt axle width compared to a dually that used the dana 70 rear axle which is wider. So if the truck you are wanting to buy has a dana 70 chances are you can bolt a dually bed on it with no trouble. Just looking a the pics it looks to have the wider rear dana 70 axle.

Re: bed mount question?

See if the glove box still has the data sheet in it. If its a model C/K 30903 then its a dually pickup with a flatbed on it. If its a model 31003 then its a C&C with a 4 inch longer wheel base and would have the narrow 14FF rear. Like Ozark said it "looks" to have the Dana 70 wide rear axles and if it does the dually bed should swap on pretty easily. good Luck
