Re: 72 lower trim-woodgrain or black
Everything but Cheyennes and Cheyenne Supers are supposed to have black. BUT...as Eric said,it is a question on some Custom Deluxes. I believe it's actually some Highlanders. Maybe some ended up getting woodgrain even though technically they weren't supposed to. These came out at the end of '72,which was the last use of this molding used since '69. The whole point of the Highlander package (actually I think there are two points) was to help clear out these trucks for the oncoming new body style in '73. The other,I figure, was to pilot option bundling that is the norm today. I know I had a Highlander with woodgrain trim and everything about that truck was original. I guess someone could have changed the trim a long time ago...maybe even when it was new, because it was just as aged as the rest of the truck. And,this even had the tool & stowage compartment. There are others on the site who have or had Highlanders with woodgrain, too. But,this is all woodgrain discussion. One things for sure. The Customs came with no trim and when it was optioned it had black accent.
