Help! Emissions CO issue
So I almost passed emissions but the CO was slightly too high... I have to register a 6 and it registered a 7.2....So what do I need to do? Funny thing is the previous owner took it in a month ago and passed with a 3.7...WTF!
O and just FYI...Its cold as hell here right now in comparison to last month Thanks |

Re: Help! Emissions CO issue
High CO means its Running too rich.
Set Fuel mixture on lean side. Clean Air filter. Clean oil. Make sure fully warm. No accessories on. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Help! Emissions CO issue
Take it on a HIGH SPEED run down the highway for about 5-7 miles and go straight to testing

Re: Help! Emissions CO issue
Believe it or not, it does help. When the engine is good and hot, it helps it to pass for some reason. I also second the motion to lean out the mixture a little.

Re: Help! Emissions CO issue
I do not know how old your engine is so this might not work for you. I know mid to late 80`s engines can handle it but I never tried with an older one. Add 5-10% ethanol(depending on how much ethanol the gas all ready contains in your area )to what ever you have in the tank on you way to the test( donīt do it on a full tank), since you are over by so little you should pass the test now. On your way home fill up the tank as usual. Itīs not good for the gaskets in the carb if you run the stronger ethanol mixture for to long.
This will most likely get you trough the test, and give you time to find out what caused you to fail in the first place. Carb settings, leaky exhaust, co2 sensor etc... I will not be held/take responsible for any damage that may be caused by trying this. Itīs a temporary fix that should not be used over any longer period of time.

Re: Help! Emissions CO issue
I live in Denver and am running into the same situation. My truck runs like a top and has all the necessary equipment to pass however I'm too high on the CO & NOx readings. I found a shop in town that will install a new catalytic convertor for $150. I believe mine is so old that it is no longer functioning and burning up the excess fuel in the exhaust like it is supposed to. I'm debating on purchasing that and retesting.
Just so ya know, after my first fail I changed the oil and tried using this: I still failed the second time with similar numbers.

Re: Help! Emissions CO issue
i would go back to the place that tested it prior to you buying it and find out how much of a kick back he needs for the lower reading.. in SC that would have been the case every time.. one of the reasons we voted it out..

Re: Help! Emissions CO issue
If it's just a county thing, may want to see what the next county over has to offer...
Check around with some locals with trucks like yours and see where they go. Even in a small town like where I live, everyone looks for something different past the light check and brake check. Just depends on who ya' get. Least that'll get you passed and you can try and diagnose without added pressure.

Re: Help! Emissions CO issue
Your drivers license would have to reflect that you live in that county however. Already looked into it.

Re: Help! Emissions CO issue
Let me know how that goes. I attempted to register mine at my cabin in Summit County and they said I had to establish residency there, acquire a post office box, and have my drivers license reflect that address.
