Found The Perfect Tool For Installing Door Springs!

I will be selling this finely crafted piece of equipment to the highest bidder (not really).

It worked like a champ! Made installing the door spring a 45 second job with the door on!

Re: Found The Perfect Tool For Installing Door Springs!

I'll try to go back and take some photos of how I did it...it was actually really simple!

Re: Found The Perfect Tool For Installing Door Springs!

Still interested in hearing what you did. My door spring has been broken for 6 or 8 YEARS!

Re: Found The Perfect Tool For Installing Door Springs!

Okay, so here is the basic rundown.

You insert the new spring by sliding it down into position and securing it in the three visible slots of the hinge assembly (two in the main straight center section of the spring and one for the top rounded hook end of the spring)

Slide it as far down as you can (past the notch in the top edge of the spring)

The bottom of the spring will be sitting to the outside of the door hinge roller wheels at this point

You now insert the broken spring or other similar tool into the bottom hook (squared hook) of the spring as shown below

You now pry the broken spring/tool toward the inside of the truck to get the end of the "hook" to the inside of the front roller wheel. (The door needs to be fully opened and you may even need to push on it with your body to get it just a bit farther open)

You with come into a slight interference with the roller wheel but as you pry the hook of the spring inward, the roller wheel will spin and roll the hook right into position.

Now you will close the door halfway and use a small dead blow hammer to tap the whole spring assembly upward into the final position indicated by the "notch in the top rounded hook of the spring.

You will see that the bottom squared hold has a slot it also rests in within the hinge, this is why you have to close the door halfway when tapping the spring upward.

At this point you should be done! I wish I had taken photos as I went, but I had no clue I was on the trail of a shortcut! I hope these instructions help...

Thanks for posting that. I don't really understand it, but I'm sure it will make a lot more sense when I'm looking at the parts and not just reading it on my cellphone!
