Not good but it spurs a little more motivation
today i got it my truck just like normal to go to class had a couple of errands to run before going home, forgot something at home so went and got it and left again pulled up to a light and noticed the truck was idling a little rough, looked down and i have no oil pressure what so all at idle now when i give it some throttle the pressure is fine. so i thought i have had it on a major road where it was spinning higher rpms so maybe it needs to settle down for a little bit so i left it running while i was in the parts store, like 10 mins come back out and still no oil pressure now i know this aint good so i am going to drive my car to work tonight and this gives me a little more motivation to get that dang 350 built. but any one have any clue what the prob could be, could my oil pump be crapping out on me. oh the engine is a 230 or 250 inline 6 out of a later truck but i am not sure what its from or exactly what it is.

Re: Not good but it spurs a little more motivation
Sounds like oil pump to me. Not that hard to replace in the I6. The 230, 250 and 292 from 63-66 used the same oil pump...prob around $45 or less.

Re: Not good but it spurs a little more motivation
Could be a failing oil pump, but sounds more like it might just be a few quarts low on oil. Also if the copper tube running from the engine to the gauge got pinched during recent activities under the hood, that might withhold a reading until the pressure gets higher.

Re: Not good but it spurs a little more motivation
thanks for the input i dont think it could be the tube as i have never touched it and never had an issue with it until today. it could be low on oil i know it leaks a little but why would it suddenly start doing this today. i did come home and let it sit for about an hour, didnt think to check the oil but started it up and the oil pressure was fine i played with the carb a little bit to get it idling a little smoother i am going to drive it to work tonight and see what it does. then go from there

Re: Not good but it spurs a little more motivation
It could be a pick up tube that has fallen off the oil pump as well.

Re: Not good but it spurs a little more motivation
yes certainly check the oil, had a similar situation with mine. only i checked the oil first thing, the dipstick read full so i put it back in and drove a little ways till i heard the engine starting to rattle. turned out the dipstick was not from that motor apparently so when it read full i was actually a couple quarts low.
