whats it worth

I found an 86 c10 swb with a 2008 5.3 &4l60e tranny with low miles. The truck is nothing special and i really dont even want it but i do want the 08 drivetrain to put in my 66 c10. Am i crazy to spend 4 to 5k for this thinking i will get some of my money back depending on what i do with the 86 once i pull the ls motor out of it.

I would think finding a 5.3 engine with tranny attached would be the easy way out if you dont want the headache. You will get some back but is the added work and headaches worth it???

Re: whats it worth

I would think you would be better off to just find a different motor and skip the truck buying. Maybe if it was less. The 86 and 66 swap stuff is different if i remember right. Seems to me you can get a turn key swap for less them that for engine, harness, and trans from some of the places on the net.

Re: whats it worth

not worth it, you'll end up with a drivetrain someone else has already bought second hand and mucked with....and a truck you don't want and can't sell cuz it had a motor swap, but no longer has the motor.

Re: whats it worth

....can't you just swap the '66 cab and box on to the '86 chassis?...then you would have a newer drivetrain, suspension etc........guess it depends on the price.

Re: whats it worth

If the '66 has front disc, then going the the 86 truck stuff wouldn't really be an improvement. Trailing arms and springs ride better than leaf anyway imo.
