54 GMC Hydromatic ... S10 long box frame

Here is what I got ...

The truck is an all original `54 GMC. It has less that 35,000 original miles on 248 straight 6, and Hydromatic trans. I took it off the old chassis and mounted the cab on the `87 S10 one. The S10 has 2" drop spindles and 1.5" xtreme blazer leafs and 2" blocks. and a 4x4 disc brake rearend.
I'll update when i can ... thanks for looking

I sent you a message. What are your plans for this truck as far as drive train goes. Ditching the stock motor and trans?

sirwilliam, Looks like a really nice truck to start with. Are you making all of your cab and bed brackets? Save your self the money and make your own.

Re: 54 GMC Hydromatic ... S10 long box frame

Yes sir (xpickup) I used the stock s10 front mounts and the 54s rear mounts. It is mounted a LOT lower than most the guys on here. Yes I'll loose bed floor depth, o well i'm not gonna haul stuff. I am gonna make my own bed mounts and floor as well. I'm getting a 327 for it and lookin for a 700r4.

Re: 54 GMC Hydromatic ... S10 long box frame

Instead of changing the frame, Fatman makes some good Mustang II front end kits for these.

I had a 50 Studebaker pick-up with Fatman coilover on the front, Pete & Jakes 4-link coilover in the rear W/ frame notch, Boxed frame....Handled alot better than a S-10 while using the original Studebaker frame.

Re: 54 GMC Hydromatic ... S10 long box frame

I guess I didnt state that I am unemployeed! I got the truck when I was workin last march for $800. Got the frame for free with out leafs or spindles. I had Blazer drop leafs and 2" blocks and the disc brake rearend... so far i only have $161 into the chassis do to the DJM 2" drop spindles... So as I do paint jobs on the side and have a lil extra money after bills and every day things for my 17 month old son. I do this...

Nice start, love those wheels. GMC's are so much easier to do a swap in the front cause of how there grill is made. Looking forward to more progress and it's not fare you have a lift, LOL.

Re: 54 GMC Hydromatic ... S10 long box frame

Spackle100 - The rims S10 "ZQ8" 16x8 wheels. They came stock on S10's with the ZQ8 suspention package, witch is the xtreme package with out the groundFX. Very desired S10 wheel!!

1952ssr - Ive been lookin at your truck, it's sweet! And the lift is at my Dads, I only used it while mounting the cab. Its currently outside, not even at my house...

Meter Swinger - Maybe we will see each other at shows around here. In July there is a Super Chevy show in Spokane.

I go to the walla walla show every year. The classy chassy in kennewick isnt bad. Havn't been to the super chevy in spokane, though i heard from a buddy it was good. The one in cour d lane is good too.
Looks like you got some mad skills. You need to take that jimmy to the walla walla show if we have to tow it.

Wow that's low! How are you going to do your gas tank and bed floor?

Re: 54 GMC Hydromatic ... S10 long box frame

Gonna drop the bed down over the frame, I'll loose about 5 or 6 inches of depth. And I'm gonna use a 2dr S10 Blazer gas tank. It mounts where the spare tire goes on the S10 frame..

Re: 54 GMC Hydromatic ... S10 long box frame

That truck is starting to look good. Wish I could say I was making some progress.

I haven't been a fan of the S-10 frame swaps when the truck already has a nice frame under it but the economics of it make a lot of sense.

Keep us posted on the progress.
