What's the deal with running the steam lines back into the water punp?....any more info on this?

Running the steam line into the pump eliminates the connection back to the radiator or into the radiator hose itself. It's just a shorter route to run the steam line. This Also allows the use of stock radiators and not having to purchase adapters that go in the radiator hoses.

I usually go to lowes and purchase a barbed fitting. Then drill and tap the water pump on radiator return side of pump ( top radiator hose area). This will draw steam out of line. Then run hose from head vent to barbed fitting.

I got lazy, just used a T in the heater line and plugged mine in there. I just made just to do a really good system bleed first, since realistically with a full bubble-free cooling system, the steam lines don't serve a huge purpose.

so the line goes into one side of the tb, out the other and the to the rad?

I bypassed the TB, thats actually a TB heating function for cold days....really freaking stupid (wait you live in Canada...it might be important lol). I blocked the tb off, and went from the steam vent in the head, to my T in the heating line.

BR3W, what is the size hose you used? Mine are blocked front and back. I havent noticed any issues but I also dont drive my truck often or long distances either.

I usually just have a fitting brazed in the radiator tank and run the line to it. My theory is that if I'm in someplace like Chickenfart nowhere and the water pump craps out on me, I can go to any auto parts store and get a new one and slap it on with the regular set of hand tools I pack for long trips. I don't have room for drills and tap and die sets in my cars.

If memory serves Its 5/16" hose, Yes you do need it hooked up. Keeps the engine full of antifreeze/air pockets out.

I ran mine back to the radiator. Works fine. I had the radiator cleaned and they welded the bung in for me.

sorry but thats the look I'm trying to get away from...I've seen it somewhere they've drilled and tapped a hole in the water pump....but now I cant find it.

Here's a couple of pics of the hose in my car. I have done a few this way. Sure if you are out driving and water pump goes out you may have to cap it off or another alternative method. But, in my personal opinion ( and everybody has their own) I like the look of this versus the line going to the radiator. Hope these help.

I would say that as long as the hose enters on that side of the water pump impeller that it should be fine.

Heres a dumb question but, So with the last picture posted, do you not worry about water getting in the steam line? The only reason I asked is because on my last ls conversion I tapped into the water pump for my tempsending unit.

Coolant does flow through it, it's not just steam in it.

I drilled and tapped my water pump on the flat part on the front and installed a 90 degree brass hose fitting.

I thought it was supposed to be mounted higher than the steam lines?...are you still running it through the throttle body?
