How to get speedo cable off of guage
How do I get the speedo cable loose from the back of the speedo on my 83? I can get my hand on it, does it unscrew or what? Do I need to pull the entire cluster?

There's a little "clip" that you push in which releases it, should be able to do it with your finger.

You probably need to take all of the screws out of the cluster and pull the top out a little. I just replaced all of the gauges when I did mine but I don't know if you can get your hand to release the clip unless you partially pull it out.

Re: How to get speedo cable off of guage
I removed my lower ventillation pieces and reached up behind the gauges through the driver's side lower left vent opening. Additional tip: Find someone with skinnier arms.

Re: How to get speedo cable off of guage
I just spayed it with Silicon lube. I will see how long that lasts. If it starts again, I will use some light greese on it.

Re: How to get speedo cable off of guage
I used spray graphite lube to grease mine. Haven't driven the truck yet to see if that did the trick.
Bonus tip - the same works great for lubing up stiff throttle cables |

Re: How to get speedo cable off of guage
As soon as I replaced my speedo cable, mine behaved like brand new! I reccomend replacing since they're only about $30 or so. Your gauge won't bounce or make noise.
