4l60e 12 pin conversion?
Glad to be hear, seems like a lots of knowledge on this site. Now to my ? I have a 12 pin, 4l60e with pwm on the pump. I would like to know if this will work with a 04, 5.3 engine computer and harness. I took a trans harness off a 99 4l80e that had 11 wires. I added a wire for pin T on my 460e, so now it has enough wires but will this work for my conversion? I hope someone here can help.

Heres some pinouts to help you, Put the S pin wire in the T pin location, Then add the S & U pins For the 3-2 solenoid & the PWM solenoid, Then you need the PCM reprogramed for a 4L60E if your using a 4L80E PCM. A 93-94 NON-PWM 4L60E will NOT work. 1st pic....4L60E (PWM) 2nd pic...4L80E Last edited by clinebarger; 01-17-2012 at 09:01 PM. |

Re: 4l60e 12 pin conversion?
Thanks Cline, I was hoping you would respond to this. I can make the wiring changes you showed. But the trans I have does have PWM stamped on the pump plate, but only has 12 pins on the connector. Maybe someone replaced the pump plate I don't know. But since it only has 12 pins I got to find another trans?

Re: 4l60e 12 pin conversion?
Might have the wrong harness in it? PWM & NON-PWM pumps dont swap, They might physically, But not operationally.
Pull the pan, The PWM solenoid is right below the TCC solenoid (#5 in the 1st pic) The 2nd pic is of the PWM solenoid....The black line is where the dipstick tube is to give a reference. Is there a PWM solenoid on the valve body? If this trans is a NON-PWM, IT WILL NOT WORK. |

Re: 4l60e 12 pin conversion?
I took the solenoid out of the right side and it fit into the left where the dwm is missing so maybe the harness was swapped for some reason I can't tell if it has though. I had some pictures but can't get them to download here.

Re: 4l60e 12 pin conversion?
These are the pictures. Maybe this can help. Do you think I can change the wiring and add a solenoid?

Re: 4l60e 12 pin conversion?
The NON-PWM valve bodies have the port for the PWM solenoid, But its a "dummy". Closely inspect the opening, If it is a PWM valve body it will have fluid passeges, The NON-PWM will not.
The 4L60E was designed from the beginning to have a PWM TCC solenoid, But the PCMs at the time weren't capable. So Hydra-Matic made the NON-PWM. I highly recommend running a "300 MM" 2-peice 4L60E behind a LS engine, NOT a "298 MM" 1-peice like you have. "300MM" 4L60E indenification, Top center bolt hole in bell housing is the best way to tell.....Drawings.......... |

Re: 4l60e 12 pin conversion?
I looked and it seems to be a vein at the front and rear of the port, but not sure. Another guy told me to use it with a pwm valve and change the harness to 13 pin, but everyone has different opinions on that. Thanks for the info Cline.

Re: 4l60e 12 pin conversion?
Lets say that it is a PWM......If it was ran with no solenoid......That would be a major main-line fluid leak in the pan causing low line-pressure. This will kill a 4L60E in short order. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Re: 4l60e 12 pin conversion?
Thats the thing about it, the guy I got it from bought it used, no one knows the history of it. Thanks for the info, I'm still looking for a newer model anyway.

Re: 4l60e 12 pin conversion?
Cline I found a 98 4l60e and got it today. Now that solves the pin questions. I will be using the 98.
