Hard start issue after engines warm

So I am running the electric choke edelbrock 600cfm carb that I recently put on the motor with a new edelbrock manifold and every thing has been fine. But just in the last couple of days the truck is having a hard time starting after it has been running. Like I drive it to town, shut it off and 15 min later it is hard to start, like I have to give it some gas by pumping the pedal and it rolls over for like 3-5 sec then starts. But if it sits over night she fires right up..... Any suggestions on trouble shooting. New filter, cleaned and you can see the filter bowl full of fuel....

Re: Hard start issue after engines warm

Might be getting some heat transfer from the manifold to the carb. Try a phenolic spacer between the carb and the manifold. I was having the same issue, installed a 1 inch phenolic spacer and it fires right up now.

2nd that....had the same issue with the 1407 on my 383. You can run the 1/4" insulator gasket, ot the 3/4" 4 hole plastic spacer(either work) crazyL

Re: Hard start issue after engines warm

I've been having that problem. I noticed that on cold days, the choke will easily snap shut within literally ten minutes after shutting off the truck if it's not adjusted correctly. Then I couldn't start the truck for easily flooding. But if I held the choke open, then it fired right up.

In the morning with the engine cold it starts easily of course. I also noticed it took LONG time coming down off high idle. So your choke just could need some more fine tuning.

Yes, the elect choke can cause that also....dont touch the peddle, on that restart after 15 minutes, & see what happens. If you touch the gas peddle, it WILL shut the choke.... (flat rich). crazyL

Re: Hard start issue after engines warm

what works best for me, for the electrical choke, is to warm the engine, set the choke to the leanest position, move towards rich, when the choke plate starts to move (close) back it off one notch lean. But thats the last step, you need to check clearences too. Go to eddy's website, its all there on pdf

but your problem sounds could be heat soak, I also agree with the spacer, a 4 hole.

or do yourself a favor and buy a holley

I had the same problem and the 1" 4 hole spacer fixed it.I used 2 bronze bushings 1" long as spacers for the kickdown bracket so everything stayed inline.

What temp thermostat do you have installed? I know the question seems unrelated, and it might be. But I've been developing a theory for some time, and I need this information to support, or not support my theory.

Re: Hard start issue after engines warm

adjusted the choke back to edelbrock setting when new and just from today it seems to be fine. but will have to drive it more to see. only things I did do to truck was adjust the choke, idle screw and timing and that is when I noticed the hard start issue after warm. So I figured to set the choke back and then check the timing again. timing set I think around 14 or so
