how to install knob on shift lever nos

hello does anybody know the way to install a black plastic knob on the shift lever . i think you boil the plastic knob to expand it they slide it over has anybody done this? or they have another way ?

Try Vaseline and a rubber mallet for Persuasion.

You can boil water to install/remove the knob, however, the trick is not to get it too hot, otherwise the knob will discolor and become a light gray. When removing, if the shift arm is pitted or rusty, you can use a smoke wrench on the shift arm, but you'd better quick at removing the the knob or it will melt.
