Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
I've as well (sad to say) come to terms that I will be missing this year's Brother's show as the owner of the motor I'm buying has been a complete flake and been pushing me off even though we've had a set price for two solid weeks. Hopefully I can pay him this weekend and get him away from holding me up in further but I simply won't have the time to put this new motor in with all that I'm doing and have the time to break her in before the long haul. In the end this is best as it will not rush me and I will be able to install this motor with it's goodies the correct way and not be half-assed just to make a show. Still hurts to miss a deadline but it'll be worth it the moment that motor roars to life and sets me on my way to more shows this fall. Hoping to have a solid 10,000 miles on it before next summer if all goes as well as it should but we shall see about that

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
I used to go every year with same group but one of em passed away and it wasn't the same.So everyone lost their motivation. I went last year by myself and it was smaller than the year before. i might head up this year as well.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
I so would but i think if I miss all of it then the fire is stronger to experience everything in one shot next year as I would have this year.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Problem number 1
My old block has the large diameter temp guage plug sensor and the vortec motor has the small diameter style. GM calls to drill and tap the new vortec by I don't wanna run to that so I believe we are just goin to plug the sensor into the top of the intake in the vertical hole pictured. Opinions?? Also what this plug on the passenger side? ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Trying Dale but I gotta wait for a heat sensor plug on the diagonal hole pictured above. Then I can start here but more than likely next weekend :/

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Posted via Mobile Device Hey Dylan, make sure that angled hole is a pipe thread it looks to have a shoulder in there. The other thing is an anti knock sensor you can remove it. I don't remember if it's in a water jacket or not if it is just plug it

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Lot of cleaning and part searching yesterday learning a lot about the vortecs and their differences. So we started with a couple plugs for the top using the heat riser from mine and the brass plug in the back for the coil new plug in front.
Some of the parts I ordered up like the Carter strip super mechanical fuel pump (120 gph 7-9 psi) edelbrock throttle and kickdown linkage bracket which is really cool and adjustable as well. Egr block off plate and plate for the fuel pump. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also picked up VH Coachworks ground strap kit waiting to start replacing mine on the truck looks pretty good. Does anyone know where I can attach these to the motor when it's a center bolt style block? Usually were supposed to place them under the valve covers against the heads right? Ha to get the intake painted, that grey it has is just a little off from the rest of the motor so we treated it with semi gloss engine enamel well see how that holds up to the heat. ![]() ![]() You can see we placed the temp gauge in the vertical hole at the front of the intake. Hopefully well stab it in the truck today sometime and have it ready to run when we can. Posted via Mobile Device
