rear brakes swap

will 56 chevy rear brake backing plates mount to a 67 10bolt car rearend , i have a 10 bolt car rearend but the brakes and hardware were all missing and to replace it is almost as much as getting disc brakes and since its a quick lowering swap till i get fund for a 4 link .i dont want to waste money on brakes if anyone has doen this i meassured and it looks the same im just wondering on finding rear brake drums that are 5 lug for the brake shoe size ,

I don't believe that is going to work.

You might go on www.O'Reilly's.com and use their cheat sheet to figure out what drums will fit on that rear axle.


Example, if this works this is the link to the backing plates for my son's old 79 El camino that donated the engine to my 71 GMC when he totaled it.

Click on compatibility and you can see what models that backing plate fits. You don't have to buy from them but that will aid in your junk yard search for parts. The same thing works with the drums.

thanks for the info looks like the backing plate fits gmc trucks but only shows the smaller ones like s15 jimmy and the sanomas and for cars camaro and elcamino , ill just have to brake down and go for a weld on disc brake kit , i heard mixed stories on people running 4 way disc brakes some love it and others say it feels difrent that they wish they kept the drums on the rear

get Carcraft April 2012 ,,pg74,, there is a article on rear 11 1/2 dics brakes from 88-97 f-bodies..fits 8.5 and 12bolts I just got a set today from the junkyard

funny you mention Carcraft Mag. that was my bible growin up back east .50cents a copy -read it cover to cover - 1st issue i still have AUG of 1965 , thanks for the memory sir .
