Gas Tank Removal???
My driver side tank is never being used so I`d like to get rid of it. Currently its a 2 gas tank setup. Whats involved in making it work on only one tank which is the pessenger side tank, worth the headache???
I`ve dropped a couple of tanks before but never eliminated just one. Once I drop the driver side tank what do I need to change? What needs to be plugged up, rewired, removed etc. in order just to go off the pessenger side tank? I just want to know if its worth the hassle, if not, I might as well remove them both and go with a blazer tank under the bed. Thx in advance. |

Re: Gas Tank Removal???
When I first got my truck it had both tanks. The crossover valve leaked badly and the right tank leaked a little too. I removed the valve and the wiring, and the rt. tank and just tied the lines straight to the lt. tank. It works fine but man do I miss having that extra tank on road trips.

Re: Gas Tank Removal???
Yes, correct. I left the 3 lines in tact. one is supply, the other two are vents(I think), one of the vents goes to the pump and the other to the charcoal canister thingie(think you can do away with this one) . I removed everything else. One wire to sending unit. If I remember right I just tried a couple of wires to the sending unit till I saw it register on the gas gauge, then I knew I had the right wire. That is still wired to through the switch on the dash on mine I'm pretty sure.

Re: Gas Tank Removal???
No there's a right and left, I just chose to leave the switch. I think I just tried them to see which one worked the gauge from the position the switch was in. Make sure there's a good ground to the sending unit still. You'll see when you get into it, I think I had to splice the lines where the valve used to be. Pretty easy once you get started.
