What's the purpose of the welded on bracket on the v8 vent tube?

Putting my 283 v8 back together and just wanted to know what's the purpose of the welded fork looking bracket on the the breather vent tube that mounts on the rear of the block. Also the lower movable bracket bolts to the starter? I'm asking because the PO was a alcoholic and did some weird stuff when it came to putting things back on the old 58.

The bracket bolts to one of the bellhousing bolts on the passenger side of the engine to stalblize the road draft tube. make that the bottom end of the road draft tube isn't bent up or collapsed. If it were mine I'd throw that thing in the swap meet box and put a pcv system on it in it's place. Those tubes only really work as designed at highway speeds where there is enough air passing by the end of the tube to cause a venturi effect and draw the fumes out of the crankcase.

If there is a bracket on one of the bolts that go through the housing on the starter the top bolt should have the threads sticking out so that the bracket will fit on it and then connect to a hole up on the side of the block. If it has the truck starter with the three bolts that bolt to the bellhousing it usually doesn't have that bracket though. on the starters that bolt to the block it is used to keep the starter from wiggling around, for the lack of a better term, when you crank the engine.

The fork bracket is for a plastic wire loom to hold the spark plug wires on that side
