Newbie Question

Hi all, I am new to this forum. I have a 1971 chevy swb. I bought a set of
18inch boss 302 rims. I went to put them on the front and the center of the rotor was too beefy and too long, so I went with a set of spacers. They fit now and look great. I just dont like the idea of the spacers...is there a way around this? Maybe a front spindle/rotor combo off of a different application? Ideas and any info would be greatly appreciated. I will put a pic of my truck here as well. Thanks.

Re: Newbie Question

Welcome to the forum. Seems you have yourself in a bit of a pickle, but maybe not. It would appear that your wheels only match the bolt circle - so not sure any hubs that would fit your truck would be a perfect fit for the wheels. I'm personally a non-spacer kinda guy - I am like you, kinda makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Couple questions - is there ANY slop in your spacer when you install it over the studs?
How much of the studs is exposed through the wheel (with the spacer behind it)?
Or, probably more appropriately - how thick is the spacer?

The wheels look nice. Here's my 2 cents though - based on the input you get from other folks on here regarding actual safety concerns based on your answers - then you can either rest easy and keep em - or if the hair on your neck stands up even more after you get those answers - then sell them and buy specific-application wheels for your truck. Torque Thrust D's, perhaps 17-18"ers seems to be the look you're going for.

Probably not the answer you're looking for - but wait to see what some other folks think about the spacers - then see how you feel about it. Many folks use em, I'm just not one of em.

Re: Newbie Question

Thanks for the input. There isn't any slop in my spacers. I should have said that these were custom built spacers from wheelspacers.com. I really didn't want the cheap spacers you can buy off the shelf. They are 1.25inches thick and bolt to the rotor, the studs that are in the spacers then hold the rim on. So they are safe (i believe, others might disagree). Would rather not have the spacers more for clearance issues, because i want to drop it 3" inches in the front.

Re: Newbie Question

Do alittle searching, there are other threads with info on the hubs needing machined to make the older boss wheels fit. Pitch the spacers and get'em mounted where they belong.

Re: Newbie Question

I agree - that's a much better option than spacers.

From one Saskatchewan member to another welcome to the site. You have latched onto the best site on the net. It is well managed ( I think too well managed sometimes) and everyone is willing to share their knowledge and experiences with our trucks. I'm in Saskatoon, you ?
