disk parts exchange ?'s
I'm putting discs on the front of my 69, right now I have all 71-72 parts. (b/j, t/r, and spindles) I've noticed 73-? calipers and some other thins are a lot cheaper then 71-72.
My question is, will the 73-? calipers fit on my spindles?

Re: disk parts exchange ?'s
The 71-72 calipers interchange with the later calipers. The difference is in where the brake hoses bolt to the caliper. Each caliper is forged a little different. I've had to grind the steel hose ends a bit to make them work. Nothing that you can't do in just a couple of minutes.
Here is a picture I snapped awhile back to show the differences...

Re: disk parts exchange ?'s
Thanks Tx Firefighter, so is there any advantage of using the newer calliper as opposed to the later besides the price. would i even be able to use my 72 calipers as cores for the 73-87

Re: disk parts exchange ?'s
I don't think the parts place will even realize that you are giving them 71-72 cores. I've returned different parts as cores before and never a problem. Most of these parts counter kids don't care. Most don't even open the box anymore.

Re: disk parts exchange ?'s
I second that. My parts store, they open the box to make sure there is actually a caliper core in there and not a brick or something. They could care less if it's a 72 or a 73 caliper in there.

Re: disk parts exchange ?'s
Don't mean to bring up an old thread, but since there are quite a few cars/trucks that run the same front caliper, does that mean they also share the same rotor? Such as the impala stuff..

Tx Firefighter, you say you modified the hose end? Is there a reason why you did that as opposed to grinding off the raised portion of the caliper so the bigger hose end could fit? Just wondering. If the parts places can't get the correct caliper for some reason I may go that route. Actually it would be cheaper (almost half the cost) to use the later model casting...

Re: disk parts exchange ?'s
Heck, if none of that will hurt anything then I'll just keep the caliper I already have and save a few bucks. The 71 is 19.99 and the 72-up is 11.99 (Autozone lists the same part number for 72-up, and only 71 is different).

Re: disk parts exchange ?'s
I asked this question in another thread, but this thread seems to be more on topic. I was wondering if I can use the calipers off a 79 4x4 suburban on a 2wd 79 C10.

Re: disk parts exchange ?'s
Go to www.cardone.com and use their parts lookup portion on the right hand side. Plug in the different vehicles and see if the part numbers come up the same.

Thanks, I did that and they're the same.
Captainfab also assured me that they're the same. Posted via Mobile Device
