Re: aftermarket aluminum rads

I just bought one from Dave's Truck Parts in NC. I paid $260 for it, and it looks and fits good. I'll post pics when I get them downloaded.

Re: aftermarket aluminum rads

I bought one from Reliable radiators, Champion 3 core aluminum. dual fans ( 12" I think) and it was a direct fit. I should have had a bung drilled for the steam vent but I just went with the upper hose "splice" from Jagsthatrun.com

Re: aftermarket aluminum rads

I did a quick measure on my stock rad and the core alone is 28"x18" with the tanks its around 34" wide...so the 31"x19" griffin should fit perfectly...the 45* on the lower rad hose inlet/outlet should help to clear the "Z" as well.....

I have a be-cool that was in my truck from back when it had the 355. Single fan, always on, and I'm ok with that.

Re: aftermarket aluminum rads

I'm running a stock style 4 core with the Old Air Products dual electric fans that were made for our trucks. Low speed fan runs w/key on, high speed comes in if its needed and it all keeps my temp pretty much pegged at 180*

Re: aftermarket aluminum rads

Alright, so here is what we have gathered so far... OP, you can edit this into your original post if you would like. Just think it would be a good link for potential and current swappers

Direct Fit(67-72)

Entropy Radiators
-LSX Swap W/ Fans- $699.00

Reliable Radiator
-4 Row Aluminum W/ Fans- $350.00

Dave's Truck Parts
-Aluminum Direct Fit W/O Fans- $260

Griffin Thermal
-Aluminum LSX Swap Rad-$585.00 via SummitRacing

Summit Brand(Northern)
-Aluminum 2 core W/O Fans- $299

Universal Fit(Modification Req.)

Griffin Thermal
-31"x19" Universal Combo W/ Fans- $585

Im sure there are more. If you have a solution that might be helpful, let me know and I can make the changes accordingly!

I apologize if this broke a forum rule. I looked through the rules and I didnt see anything regarding anything like this.

Re: aftermarket aluminum rads

Here's what I used on two of my swaps:

Summit racing #380457. It is made by Northern (Made in China). I've ordered two and had to send one back because of poor quality control. Anyways, it has a built in 1/2-20 flare fittings for an automatic tranny as well as a 1/4" npt/npsm fitting that I used with a 1/4" barb for the steam vent line. Also, it has a 5/8" heater hose fitting that comes blocked off.
It fits perfectly within within the rad support using 4 core mounts. The intake on the driver side is tapered from approx 1 1/4" to 1 3/8"... the stock 5.3 hose slides onto this about half way up. The output is passenger side and also fits the stock 5.3. I believe it is 1 1/2". There is also a nipple at the neck for an overflow.
It looks pretty good but it is unpolished. I believe it is a 2 core. If you cross reference this rad it is listed for a '71 chevelle, gto and others.

Anyways, I've run it my blazer for the last couple of years. No issues yet. Although, I did recently send one back because it was warped straight out of the box, i.e. poor quality control.

It's an easy swap at $299. It is, however, made in China...
