Re: Rebuilding Vent Windows, How To...
Yes, I ordered the rivets and rivet tool from them. I think it was around $10 or so for the rivets and the tool.

Re: Rebuilding Vent Windows, How To...
Remove the 3 screws from the top edge of the door frame. The screws are located directly underneath the red dots. Sorry for the bad picture....
Remove the old weather stripping starting at the red line and work your way to the back of the door frame. Half way back, just before the first curve, there is a small plastic clip that snaps into a hole that is designed to help hold the weather stripping up. Just pull weather stripping away and use a screwdriver to remove it. You can discard it since the new weather stripping comes with it pre-installed. You can continue to rip out the old weather stripping as far as you can down into the door. I was able to just grab and pull all of the old stripping right up and out from behind the edge of the door glass

Re: Rebuilding Vent Windows, How To...
Once the old weather stripping is removed, you will be able to grab a hold of the back side of the vent window and pull back to remove it from the door. READ BELOW.
IF YOU HAVE TINTED WINDOWS, BE VERY CAREFUL TO KEEP THE BOTTOM PART OF THE FRAME ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR GLASS SO YOU DO NOT SCRATCH YOUR TINT!!! As you pull back on the frame, the bottom part of the vent window bracket will slide forward. You will have to rotate the vent window and pull up at the same time to get the bracket through the opening in the door. This video I found on youtube shows the process also.

Re: Rebuilding Vent Windows, How To...
I will have the re-assembly steps posted a little later on this evening. It's taking me longer to write the how-to than it did to do the job! Oh well, it's for a good cause...

Re: Rebuilding Vent Windows, How To...
So has anyone else attempted to change their vent window/door rubber sills since this write up? I see a few people posted that they were going to try this soon, just curious of the outcome.

Re: Rebuilding Vent Windows, How To...
I just did this but i didnt take the top rivet out and i used wd40 for lubrication. took a bit of finegling to get the main seal up in the grove but only took me about an hour to put both seals in. wish i had read this before i did it though. would have answered a few questions!!.

Re: Rebuilding Vent Windows, How To...
Very nice info on this part of our trucks! i replaced my vent window seals about 2 years ago and i probably should've left the original vent window seals in because now with the windows all shut, it sounds like i'm missing an entire window lol. very LOUD wind noise. but im wondering if the seals i bought were right to begin with, i mean they fit but were not exactly the same. my windows are '82 model (2-piece weatherstrip), so i ordered the seal from LMC and they sent me 1-piece design seals??? i thought maybe they re-designed the seals to fit better than the 2-piece seals? so i installed them as-is, but i skipped out on buying some weatherstrip adhesive....so anyway im going to have tackle this project again, plus i have a couple spots to touch up paint too.
Just wanted to know how the reassembly process went with the rivets and the tool you ordered??? thanks, Kris

Re: Rebuilding Vent Windows, How To...
Thanks for the write up. I just did my vent windows. I will say the hardest part was definitely getting the weatherstripping on the vent windows. Vaseline can be your best friend in the right spot and your worst enemy if there is any on the outside or if you don't immediately wipe your hands after putting it on the groove. Also i learned the weatherstripping glue comes out black but dries white, and did not hold very well. i would recommend getting another product instead.
Also i figured since i had everything apart i would install the keyless lock/unlock remote that LMC sells for like $60. I highly do not recommend it. Took a bunch of modifications and was just a pain in the *** the whole time. |

Re: Rebuilding Vent Windows, How To...
Whenever I've done test installs with our product I've always used silicone spray and a plastic weatherstrip stick.
http://precisionrestorationparts.com.../F32237082.jpg The stick helps work in the rubber without piercing it. By the way, the post seal rivets on the division bar and the main seal presses into the channel. There should be no reason to use weatherstrip glue on any of this weatherstrip. -d
