Anyone in Houston - we have a problem

Well after the 85 Scottsdale was held hostage in the body shop for 18 months, we finally got it in October. We shipped it to Houston (Katy where we live) and my DH has been working on the front end every spare moment.

He got that done, just in time before having to move full time to Mexico for his job.
However, the truck is in our garage leaking.
He came home this week with a really bad back and cannot work on the truck.
As we are putting the house up for sale, we have to move the truck into a storage unit this weekend, before he goes back to Mexico.
He says it is leaking at the shift link from the transmission, and where the speedometer goes into the transmission.

Is there anyone in this area that knows where we could take it to, or has a solution for our problem.
Presently we would need to make sure the storage unit floor is covered and put a tray down to catch leaks. We also will need to ship it back to MS in May/June after the house is sold. Shipping with a leak is not good!

I'm trying to deal with a lot of things with the move to Mexico, and our leaky truck is in the way. It has to be moved to clean and paint the garage floor before the house goes up for sale.

Any advice, help, would be greatly appreciated. Anyone who lives in the area and could fix it, we could "do a deal".

There are o-rings in the speedometer drive and around the shift arm. It should be a pretty easy fix for a transmission shop. Sorry I am not closer.

You are correct - DH is dear husband.
A dear husband who rented a storage unit today, and is trying to find something to put under the truck.

I told him about the o-rings, and asked if we should take the truck back to a transmission place here in Katy. Last time they didn't even charge us as they could not stop the leak, and just put "stuff round" as my DH says.

We are out of time. It's sad that we have put so much money and effort into the truck, and now have to shut it away.

Find a reputable transmission shop in the area, type in some shop names into Google and see if you can find any that people have written reviews about and have good things to say. A transmission shop that cant fix something as simple as a leak probably shouldn't be doing transmission work at all.

They should be able to get the transmission sealed up or fix whatever the problem is. Either way, it is going to be cheaper to get the truck drivable and take it with you now, rather than paying shipping or storage costs.

Sorry for any confusion.
We are only storing truck right now for a couple of months to get the house on the market. DH is living in mexico, only home this week for medical appointments.

We will ship the truck to Mississippi to a family member to look after, he's also a very good mechanic and can probably fix the leak.
We will use the truck whenever we come back to MS for a visit, about twice a year.

It's not been driven very far, round the block a couple of times, to Midas, to Pep Boys, to transmission shop, to Napa, to O'Reillys....you get the picture.
The new engine has very few miles.
I don't think DH would venture as far as 290!

Yes - the drip pan solution is what we will have to do as we only have til Sunday, to get it parked.

Add but don't overfill a little brake fluid to the transmission fluid. Good enough for a temporary fix as long as the leak isn't too severe. Worked for me.

DON'T DO THIS!!! unless you want to buy a new transmission.


Brake fluid will swell and destroy all the rubber inside your transmission. These rubber components fit certain parts exactly allowing the correct flow to cause the various functions of the transmission. Swelling and deterioration of these will cause improper function of the transmisson.

DH drove round (not in truck) a few transmission places and found one nearby that said they could take it in the morning and should be able to stop leak.
I'll post how it goes.
