another stupid question???
I have 350thm mated with 250 inline6. There a cable coming out of the transmission. How do I hook it up to the engine??? Don't know what the cable is for and my one barral carburator does not have a connection for this cable. I am guessing the transmission is from the 80's and inline6 is from 1975. Please help!!!!

Re: another stupid question???
Well Gabe....
I'm thinkin that cable would be for your kick-down function...from 3rd to second....for passing gear. If the end of it is plastic and it looks like it fits into a 3/4" (give-er-take) square anchor....and the cable end is a long slotted steel hooper.....then that is what it is. After you verify that that's what it is....then we'll help you figure out how to connect it... Should be a piece of cake.

Re: another stupid question???
without it, you will be sorely disappointed when you go to pass someone on the highway... Not hooking it up also affects upshifts - what might feel "cool" might be damaging your trans. The jury still seems a bit split on this point. I'm oblivious, I have a manual trans

I think I have a base plate bracket or two(that's what you'll need to mount the fixed end to) and I'll at least take a pic of that so you'll know what yer lookin for. In fact, Gabe, I have a feeling that Mr. Gskt. makes a few universal brackets that mount from on just about anything from the valve cover to the base-plate. You might get lucky down at O'Reilleys. I'll try to follow up tomorrow. Rodger on the six cylinder lovin'.

Re: another stupid question???
I know I need a bracket to hold the square piece of the cable but what about the carb linkage. How does that looks like???

Re: another stupid question???
Regardless of which bracket is used, the square hole with the notch shown in these photos is what the mounting point looks like for the kick down cable at the engine end:
![]() ![]() ![]() The carb connection is normally either a ball stud or a pin type for a circlip or a small cotter pin. Most kick down cables have a larger round hole at one end of the slot to fit over the ball or head. Here are some examples: ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: another stupid question???
Nice work Mark.
Gabe, The second example that Mark has posted of the ball/knob-studs is the most common of the GM OE linkage anchors.

Re: another stupid question???
Gabe...
Some applications used a third cable or chain assembly....the third for cruise control.
