Re: 1963 chevrolet 1/2 ton v8 radiator

I just swapped out my rad a couple of weeks ago - a 3 core for a 4 core - and I could have taken some pictures for you if I had known.
I am using the 6 cyl brackets on my v8 rad. I cut them to accomodate the thicker tank on the v8 - just made a wider base for the rad to sit in. I didn't have a pair of v8 brackets several years ago when I put in the 3 core.

Re: 1963 chevrolet 1/2 ton v8 radiator

I had to move mine up to the top step and closer to the rad support. I made my own brackets top/bottom. This thread has some pics. They might help.

I don't recall if I did or didn't.
I know I did get a proper v8 hold down bracket which is higher than the 6 cyl bracket.

Re: 1963 chevrolet 1/2 ton v8 radiator

The 4 core radiator, which has about a 2 5/8" width core, uses a wider top mounting bracket and lower mounting. If I remember right about 1/4 to 3/8 wider than the 3 core V8 radiator. I don't know if the 6 is smaller yet than the 3 core V8 radiator.

Re: 1963 chevrolet 1/2 ton v8 radiator

The V8 radiators sit on top of the crossmember below the radiator support, not down between the frame rails. You will need a different upper support than what is used with the smaller 6 cyl radiator. Send me a pm if you need one for either a 3 row core or a 4 row core.
