billet interior parts

i scored the whole billet kit for my truck, door panels are done.
Now working on the dash. I removed the dash last nite and i broke that center plastic piece that is inserted on the dash. It broke right where the vents go.
Does the billet piece go on top of that? that billet panel didn't come with instructions. whats the best way of installing it?
My truck has factory air, how do the vents work out?

my door panels

Re: billet interior parts

The long dash strip of billet that goes from about the middle of the dash to the passenger side, if it's an a/c correct piece, should have slits for the air to come out.

Re: billet interior parts

yeah thats the one i have. So then do i remove the plastic long dash strip?
Then install the billet one? Or does the billet one go on top of plastic one.
(Like the gauges)

Re: billet interior parts

Is the gauges a sticker kind of? I'm pretty sure you pull off the plastic piece and screw in the billet piece.

I've tried it both ways, didn't like either. If you put it over the original plastic it doesn't fit right, even if you remove the "hooked" right side. If you remove the plastic trim & screw it into the rubber dash, it doesn't hold well. Maybe I've missed something obvious and there's a simpler way, if so please enlighten me because I like my billet.

Re: billet interior parts

The one that I have on my truck mounted over the plastic dash insert. You have to break the plastic "Hook" part off, so that the billet piece sets into the groove, but if you get rid of everything else, then there is nothing to connect the vent pieces to behind the dash.

Re: billet interior parts

i finally got around to working on my dash. Since i broke the original trim that holds the ac ducts, i bolted them to the dash. The billet trim still screws in place of the oem trim, but now im needing longer screws.(no biggie)
But that corner piece of the dash worked out after all. I used a heat gun on the corner of the dash. Once that was really hot i placed the billet trim on top to re-shaped it the corner. Second time i applied heat on the dash, again i placed and applied pressure to that corner. But this time used a cold wet towel to cool it off. This time it stayed to shape.
Cool thing is i can make sure the ducts are sealed correctly for the ac before i install the billet trim
Ill up load some pics tonite...

Re: billet interior parts

I am fighting the same issues with mine. I do not have enough room for the billet strip to fit properly. I will need to trim away a small amount of the dash padding material for the strip to fit. That is ok because I am putting on a dash cover on that Stitch made for me.

The other issue with the install is the vent duct work. The screw hole for the billet attachment is in the center of the vent. If it hits the duct box in the middle, there is a reinforcement web that will need to be removed.

I'll post some pictures of the process and the end result when I get it installed.

None of these obstacles are a big deal but they would do well to install a few of these and provide some installation tips.

Re: billet interior parts

I don't know if this will help... this is how I solved my problem. I had some screw holes that didn't line up, so I just cut some small pieces of steel strips and drilled them for the screws.

Here's some pics of what I had to do... it's not pretty... but worked for me.

Re: billet interior parts

when my dad installed it on his truck, he said he used speed clips on the vents somehow and used the screws that hold the billet dash panel into that groove and that clamped the dash in between the vents and the billet, giving it a nut and bolt affect. the factory passenger side dash trim is NOT supposed to be in place when installing the billet, it replaces it. that held it firmly in place, and the part around the gauges goes over the stock piece. hope this helps, every billet inerior pieces ive seen install like this.

Re: billet interior parts

The one I installed in my truck had th eplastic piece still on the dash. The part that went around the corner of the end in front of the passenger was to be trimmed off, to allow for fitment at the point. Mine has been on for years and I have no problems with it.
