bed questions..find or fix
So ive been debating on fixing my bed or trying to find one in decent shape. Mine doesnt appear to be in that bad of shape just the driver side needs some repairs, im going to do some sanding on it tomorrow. To replace the lower bed side and the end cap its going to cost around $350+. I found one that is really clean off a 66, its a camper with dual side gas doors( the only thing I dont like about it) for $300.
Has anyone filled in these gas doors before? Was it easy or hard, and is there a difference in that bed and a non camper bed? Here is a couple pics of mine, just want to see what every body else thinks. |

Try to fix what you have there first and I bet you'll be surprised how it would straighten out with the right person on the hammer and dolly.
If you bomb you can always buy a bedside down the road. .02 |

Re: bed questions..find or fix
Replace the bed or just the bad bedside...... Dual tank holes are easy to fix, just be sure and cut out the pieces from a bad bedside in the same area. The bed sides are curved or contoured, much easier to fix with a patch panel that already has the correct shape.

Re: bed questions..find or fix
Well Im definately not a body man, and it would be better off getting hit by a bomb. That was another thing, how much a body man will cost to fix it or even replace the panels.
Its a short bed, made me think for a second, but yeah. I dont want to cut mine up, i figure somebody that does body work could fix everything and i would be even on the money or close to it anyways. Ill ty to find a crap bed to cut out. |

Re: bed questions..find or fix
If it's a long bed then the parts are around 150-175. Having someone put it on for ya is going to cost at a shop.. I would fix it but I do bodywork and metal work.

Re: bed questions..find or fix
Well after 3 days of trying to get a hold of this guy he finally calls me back and says he sold it. So another question, do they make a swb patch panel or do you just have to cut down a long?

Re: bed questions..find or fix
That sounds about right. I only have to replace from half the wheel opening to the back, so the length of the wheel owning shouldn't matter right.

Re: bed questions..find or fix
Steven,
There is a post for a LWB on Craigslist in our area under auto parts. The bed is blue with tailgate for $300. Looks real nice. You would have to cut it, but it could be worth it. Check it out. Marty

Re: bed questions..find or fix
I'm surprised you still have it, I didn't see it on CL anymore. Do you still have the grille, I picked up one from a 60, but ill pick that one up if you still have it. I seen that blue bed earlier today, I'm going to email him tomorrow if this guy in Flower Mound doesn't email me back about a bed side.

Re: bed questions..find or fix
Been busy at work and had no time for CL. Still have the bed and grill and other parts now. The blue bed looks really nice, and its a great price. It's just you will have to cut it up and piece it back together. If your still interested in mine, let me know, I'll make you a deal. Been working on the stepside bed I purchase in Dallas that you had looked at.

Re: bed questions..find or fix
I'm going to try and pick up a bedside sunday, he says its really clean and he only want $75 for it. You don't want to put that grill on your truck? I'll swing by and pick it up Sunday or Monday, depends on what time I get back in town and drive to flowed mound.
