90's stepside on a 60-66 C10
Has anyone ever put a 90's stepside box on a 60-66 C10 or have pictures of one? Just looking for a little guidance or how it will look as I found lots on 67 to 72 but none on the earlier ones.

I understand this is not the popular thing to do, but it is my truck and it is what I have available to me, thank you for your useless input. I want honest help and not to be put down for what I want to do.

I agree with hopped up. The lines don't line up as good as the 67- trucks

Re: 90's stepside on a 60-66 C10
Now would't that application look nice if you were to graft some 60-66 fiberglass fenders to the newer style box? Very custom.
That newer box would be a pretty nice SWB dually if you changed the front header and rear tailgate from a fleetside box. Thank's for the visual Jonz. |

Use what you have, it's YOUR MONEY and YOUR TRUCK. While it's nice to have an all original with everything nice and new, not everybody has $20,000 to dump into a truck. For those that do thank God you can and don't criticize the rest for trying to do what they can for what they can afford.

Personally don't care for the look, but completely understand using what's available. At least you are keeping your truck alive and going!

Re: 90's stepside on a 60-66 C10
who's truck is it? I didn't have the money for a complete bed for my 66 and installed a 76 step bed. No one has critized my truck and I wouldn't care if they did. Do it the way you can and run what you brung. I think it looks cool. Enjoy it and run it.

Re: 90's stepside on a 60-66 C10
Thanks for the replies and the picture. I lnow the body lines do no work as well but eventually when the money becomes available in probably a few years I will redo my original stepside box that has rusted to pieces. It's to be unique for now and get the truck on the road.

Use what you have , That's the reason there is a 6 banger in my one ton . It was here and cost 50 bucks to get it in there .

Re: 90's stepside on a 60-66 C10
I had a truck with this set-up in the 1990s. The only thing i never liked about it is the shape of the bed to the bottom of the cab. I always wanted to try to make this match better, but sold the truck. 20 years later im pouring money into a fleetside.

You can blend the body lines better with a paint job that is not one color or staight line two tone.

Re: 90's stepside on a 60-66 C10
Here are a few pictures with the later bed you were asking for:
I can’t find the photos of a couple of others that removed the steps from behind the fenders and installed what I believe are fiberglass panels, along with tail light filler panels. The tail lights (I think they were Corvette) were relocated into a rolled pan and they looked pretty nice in my opinion. Here’s a photo of a late model truck with similar smoothing but different tail lights:

Thank you for those pictures, do you happen to know any of them as I was looking for a little bit of help on how they mounted the bed onto the frame, like where they made mounting points or how? Thanks

Re: 90's stepside on a 60-66 C10
Sorry I can't help with those details. The photos were simply found on various websites. I'm pretty sure at least one or two members either did this swap or were discussing it quite a while back. I'll try some searches and if I can turn up some names I 'll post them.
Edit: Post #11 on this thread should help you out. Member spudtruck did the swap, and in fact this is the truck I was thinking of with the smoothed back end. He even offers help to anyone with mounting questions. You might try sending him a PM. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ight=sportside

FYI - I just realized post #26 on the above thread shares details of the mounting arrangement:
