No logo AD tailgate?
After further inspection of my '48's tailgate I am not fully convinced that
the tailgate has been replaced. It does not have the normal stamped CHEVROLET logo, but it has 4 holes in a rectangular pattern where the logo should be like it had a bolted on logo plate. This must have been the pimp daddy truck when it was new. It has more original accessories and options than any other deluxe truck I have seen, so it wouldn't surprise me if there was a "deluxe" tailgate that it would have it. Does anybody have one or seen pictures of an AD series tailgate like that? |

You need to post a picture so the AD guys know what you are talking about we can't read minds.

Re: No logo AD tailgate?
Im guessing an aftermarket plain tailgate with some type of plate the was screwed or riveted on at one time or another.
I dont think the plain one was OEM

Re: No logo AD tailgate?
Like Rude Dude said, how 'bout some pics. But, I've never seen an AD custom tailgate. Most manufacturers that had the aluminum or stainless custom tailgate covers just bolted them over the stamped letter tailgate instead of making a different non-stamped version.

Re: No logo AD tailgate?
I have to agree with C6 rob in that most likely it is an aftermarket tail gate that someone had their own trim fastened to. All factory tailgates that I have seen for AD and Taskforce trucks either had the Chevrolet or GMC stamped in them. Years ago some guys did actually flatten the letters out to have flat tailgates and some cut the panel out and replaced it with flat steel but either is a lot of work.
The flat no name tailgates for these trucks have been around since the early 70's as far as I know. I think I looked at them when I was building my 48 the first time in 1973 and decided that they were out of my price range. There were also tailgate skins available back then that you replaced the skin on your tailgate with. |
