Gas tanks?

Can someone share with me the options of bed tanks for efi motors? I'd like to keep fill neck in bed. Do I really have to spend $700 on a Boyd tank to accomplish this?

I just picked up a 89 Jeep wrangler 2.5 liter 15 gallon tank from Advance auto parts. I got the idea from mrhino's build http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=427417&page=2
I have not installed it yet but here is what I think
Pros:
I like that the bumper almost completely hides it.
Cheap paid about $100 for a brand new one.
Appears to accept common GM sending unit/pumps with slight modification
Internally baffled
Cons:
Filler tube is only 1 inch
Only 15 gallons

What year is your truck? Wanting to" keep the fill neck in the bed" makes it sound newer than a 72. If its a 73-87 you can just get an 87 tank since they are already set up for EFI, just change the TBI pump for a higher pressure pump and you're done.

1 sheet aluminum, 2 AN bungs, tank foam, ruler. Doesn't get a whole lot more bare bones than that. It has a sending unit as well, although its not hooked up. Holds about 15gallons, doesn't slosh, and its sumped to run an external FI pump without issue.

I also did this. I put in a fuel pump for a FI full size blazer and it fits perfect...

Truck is 72 lwb , I would like to use as large of tank as I can get. I would like to fill tank from the bed, do not want to put side door or behind plate fill( hoping to install hitch there)

The pump was from a full size blazer. 1990 i think. It has to be fuel injected and a 15 gallon tank. Not the 21 gallon tank... look it up on rockauto.com

CPP has a 22 gallon tank with a fill neck going through the bed floor(if that's what you mean) for $500. Not cheap but the fab work is great and it comes with the sender, neck, cap and fittings.

I am doing an ls swap as well, and am considering the '87 fuel tank. Apart from the fuelpump and pickup, what is the difference between that my '84 tank? Can I simply stick the efi crap in my existing tank?

If your tank has the big sender opening (about 4 inches in diameter ) you could just put an 87 sender and pump in it, but your tank wont have the baffle in it like the 87 stank.so you may have starvation problems when below half or quarter tank.

So do you need a baffled tank to have the ls motors run properly? I was just going to run an aftermarket burb tank since i'm running a frame rail mounted pump.

you dont have to run a baffled tank, but it is better if you do....it keeps fuel starvation to a minimum, when the fuel level is low, and you're on the throttle....I have a normal blazer tank, and I have to keep the fuel tank level above 1/8 if I'm gonna be foolin around....lookin back I wish I woud've bought the 87 blazer tank...

I know a 87 sender fits a 77' & a 83' with stock tanks, Buy a 87' sender & put the pump in the tank. A inline pump doesnt fix the "fuel slosh" problem with unbaffled tanks. Your good to a 1/4 tank, You shouldnt run anything under 1/4 tank anyway.

Does it matter what tank? My truck only has one on the passenger side. Only reason I was going to use the inline and C5 reg is because I have them left over from another project.

If you have an unbaffled tank, get tank foam, it will aid in sloshing and help concentrate fuel around a sump (if you have a sumped tank). Either way it will help the slosh, as a fix.

With the 87-91 Blazer tank, you will need the same year sending unit and a high pressure GM style pump (EP381 or similar). The TBI pump from those years will not build enough pressure to support an LS. I would stick to the 25 gal if lowered, as the 31 gal will hang lower. Also note that this tank will not work on a SWB without serious hacking...

I used a 87 blazer tank in my blazer. I had to move the rear crossmember back a few inches. 87 sender with EP381 and stock filler.

I used a 89 Jeep tank in my C-10 long bed because I didn't want to move the crossmember. With this, I used a 87 sender with EP381. The Jeep tank fit pretty good...I added a small crossmember below the bed to have something the front end of the tank to rest on. The only issue is the filler size, 1". I'm running an in bed filler from the same jeep. The tank is barely visable below the rear sport bumper and otherwise would not be an issue if the truck were lowered.
