My 700r puked twice

So, for the second time I pulled my truck out of the garage only to find about a quart of tranny fluid on the garage floor..there was about 2500 miles between incidents. Tranny shifts fine, no problems.
I think it's coming from the tail shaft but I'm not certain.
The truck had been sitting for about a week.
Any suggestions what to look for.

Rich, keep in mind you can almost cover a football field with a teaspoon of trans fluid. You probably aren't leaking nearly as much as you think you are. A quart would leave a puddle the size of your truck (seriously).

Well, probably not a quart but it saturated a giant tv box piece of cardboard. Why nothing and then a puddle the size of the cab?? I don't get it.

When the truck sits, the fluid draind out of the converter into the rest of the trans. If you have a pinhole leak, you will find it. A few sources may be the dipstick seal (especially if it is the old O-ring type), vent tube on top of trans, speedo gear o-ring, pan gasket, rear seal, or the output shaft itself. The output shaft is hollow, and can let fluid otht there through the front driveshaft yoke.

Not sure about the 700r but i suspect its the same as a th350 and in the tailhousing theres an o-ring that keeps the tranny from leaking out the hole in the back of the yoke. You can either seal the yoke up like most do or replace the o-ring.

I Just got back from a week in "sunny" Florida... Only to find lake superior of tranny fluid under my truck..in the past it would stop leaking, but not this time. It rained every day in Florida and now it's raining here too. So tommorow will be cleanup day..the yoke has fluid leaking off of it and so does the pan..and it is an 85 so it must have the o ring dipstick too..what a freakin mess.

Re: My 700r puked twice

Rich,

Clean it off and see where it's wet. The TV cable housing can allow fluid to escape as well as the dipstick area after it sits. If it's wet around the TV cable and you've replaced the seal, replace the cable.

I'm in CT too watching the rain pour down but I have a big fat garage I'm playing in.

I am going to keep an eye on this forum because I can use a lot of this information. Not trying to jack your thread but is there a seal between the bellhousing and engine block that would leak fluid at all?
