Flexplate in my BBC 66

I thought I would share this with you guys. Before I installed the cab for the last time I wanted to hear the engine spin over just by the starter not start it. Because the last time I ran the engine the starter had a hard time turning it over I had to add (3) starter shim to get it turning over fast enought to start. Well I spun it over and it just didn't sound right. So I removed the trans and the flexplate. I measured from the hub to valley of gear about (12) locations it was out of round by .045 so I picked up another one from Napa is was out of round by .100. Then I bought A Pioneer SFI certified flexplate it was out of round by .015 I can live with that she spun free. Just a note just because it's new does't mean it's good watch out for the off shore crap.

Re: Flexplate in my BBC 66

I had the same issue with my 400, bought thru a reputable supplier, ended up with one from TCI thru summit.

Re: Flexplate in my BBC 66

I had a similar experience with a Summit HEI Blueprinted distributor. The tech details promised all sorts of superior improvements. The only time in 20 years my truck wouldn’t start and left us stranded, three times, was because of that distributor. Fortunately there was always a parts store within a mile or so. Each time I pulled the cap and found it full of ground powder, although I never did determine what caused it. There wasn’t anything obvious like a chewed up cap or broken rotor.

We’d walk back and forth trying new parts until it started again. I replaced the module, cap, and rotor several times going through this drill and sure enough a few weeks later it would leave us stuck someplace else. The “blueprinted” distributor went in the garbage and was replaced with a stock replacement from Napa about 15 years ago and we’ve never had another problem since.
