change out the coil springs?
any body know of or done a change out on the coils? daughter wants a good stance, i was going to cut a coil off all the way around. but does anybody know of a set of coils you can swap too? (i.e. something from the local salvage yards?) maybe someone has done this kinda thing? thanks guys.

I just completed a 2"/4" drop on my '66 using Early Classic Enterprises coil springs.
http://www.earlyclassic.com/catalog.aspx For $228 for front AND back, plus the ride, I can't see wasting money on substandard springs. Just food for thought.

You can cut the front but not the back. Back are pigtailed on both ends.
Just for your daughters safety get new springs. |

I used Jeep TJ springs to lower the back of my '62, a direct bolt in. Now for the front I wouldn't know because I have torsion bars.

I'm using Chevelle springs. Direct replacement with much softer ride, 4" drop roughly....I'm in process of converting mine. You will need adjustable panhard bar and lots of liquid wrench with an air hammer to get the lower coil retaining bolts out and possibly a sawzall! Oh, and don't forget the swear jar. The outcome should be worth it though, and if too soft a ride, add coilover shocks to firm it up more.

I disagree you can cut the back, my buddy has done it to a handful of these trucks he has owned,and Ive done it and just used a u-bolt through the frame to secure the top of the spring....but that does require you to drill holes in the frame. but thats just a cheap easy way when your broke ,if you have the extra cash might as well buy pig tailed springs.

I've cut my rear springs too, and rides much,much better that the tj springs. When I had the tj springs I couldn't put **** in the bed

if you decide on tj springs they can be identified as follows
Jeep TJ/LJ springs. There are four different versions of the springs that were used from 1997 through 2006. These are the ones that can be used on the C10. Similar rear springs could be found on the Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ. All four versions are the same length wise but vary in rate. The only way to tell them apart is by the color coded tags that are on the springs from the factory, they read as follows: 103AA (or 3AA) 130lb. 104AA (or 4AA) 140lb. 105AA (or 5AA) 150lb. 106AA (or 6AA) 160lb.

I haven't had it out of the garage since the change over. I'm still working on installing the adjustable trac bar and rear shock relocation kit. Here are a couple I snapped after it was back on the ground. I suspect the front will fall a bit more after I roll it out of the garage and the wheels settle out.
