4" Lowering Springs in Front

I've searched and searched for a vendor that has a 4" lowering spring for the front and the only one i've come up with so far is Hotchkis.

Only problem with that is, I dont want to go lower than 5" in the rear.

Also, say I get springs, what would you guys suggest I'd HAVE to follow up with (e.g. shocks, shock relocators, modified bump stops)?


Anyone running the Hotchkis setup, or 6" out back? I'll be taking Everyone's opinion into account. Links would be a huge help!

This is what led me to believe i'd need to get lowering shocks on top of the Hotchkis setup if I were to head in that direction.

go to suicide doors, get air bags it will not cost much more and you can get any height you want.....approx $400.00 for front and rear total. Much better ride quality and you can adjust the height......just use a simple schrader valve system and later you can add compressor and valving......Kieth

go with spindles, and the least amount of spring drop that you possibly can. That will get you the best ride quality (other than bags) I did 2" drop spindles, and cut one coil off of the stock springs, and boy did she come down....good luck!

This is Exactly the type of info im looking for. I had heard that one could get an airbag setup going for less than $500 but i wasnt sure if it was true. If you could post Direct links to every part I would need it would be fantastic. I know its a lot to ask but Im Completely out of the loop as far as air bags go.

First66- Lets start by getting some information on what you have, and what you want to accomplish. We can assume your looking for 4" of drop up front. Are you still running drums, or have you converted?

If you want to do a static drop I always recommend getting as low as possible with spindles, but that will require you to convert to disc brake. From there you can follow up with spring drop if you want more.

You can bag it on a budget, but you should start by getting as much suspension drop first. If you want to consider a budget bag system take a look in our Suspension Marketplace. There are some great deals to be found there.

I am still on drums and kinda want to keep it that way. I was considering, and leaning, towards a static drop because I thought it was considerably cheaper than bagging. However, the more im reading, the more its not the case. Budget Bag Setup is the perfect name for what im looking for. I'd like to keep it around $600.

I am so new to this and see so many different setups and miscellaneous parts thats its still a bit overwhelming. I'm looking for a "Materials Needed" sheet, if you will, so I can go from there.

From what i've read, I need;

1. Compressor
2. Plates
3. Cups
4. Valves
5. Air Tank
6. Air Line
7. Switch Box
8. Fittings

Only thing is...I have no clue where to go from there.

First66 – Is your truck at stock height right now? Stock is pretty tall. A 6” drop isn’t too bad. Do you have pictures of your truck now?

Personally I would not spend a dime till I got rid of the drum brakes. I know there are those that feel they are fine, but I am not one of those.

Mike's truck is pretty much the same truck as it was in the article, but now it's powered by an LS3 and the complete chassis has had a serious overhaul, but kept the complete Hotchkis TVS system.

Hotchkis....can you confirm if the 4" front drop is available in just a 4" spring or if it's a combination of a drop spindle and springs? I've seen it listed on your site and others as just a spring but had a member here call and was told it's only a drop spindle plus a spring...

Funny I was just going to post a similar question. I have a '69 w/ 6 lug drums. Found some ''71 5 lug disks for $125. Same guy has a 12 bolt rear out of a '71 burb so getting to 5 lug and disks could be done on the cheap. Problem is, I want a 4/6 drop and would prefer to go with drop spindles as part of the drop.

What are my best options if I go with the parts off of the '71. Sorry for the hijack First66 but I figured all of these questions could be addressed in one thread over starting another and it sounds like you're in a similar situation as I am.

Thanks, read that a few times lolife99 and it is helpful. I'm thinking if I want to go 5 lug the best of both worlds approach would be to buy the rear end out of the burb and go with the drop spindles, disk w/ 5lug and 2" drop springs up front.
